Mentioned in latest Joint Line agreement has been reached between NNR and the Gresley Society for the N2 to stay on the line for 25 years.

I’d love to see a similar agreement for 76084!

Most years I visit the NNR over Xmas and ride the Mince pie specials, something I have done for many years. This year I notice there is no provision for a single traveler to pre-book a seat and it seems to have been turned into more of a family mini-dining event with premium prices and no rover tickets. Does anyone know if they will be selling tickets to walk-up passengers at Holt or Sheringham for the Mince pie specials this Xmas? Its just that I don't want to drive for two and a half hours and then get turned away.

Reported on the Friends of NNR FB page that the WD has been returned to service.

Well done to the hard working team that made this happen

Tickets will be available at Sheringham and Holt on the day. Fares are broadly the same as in previous years. The main change is the provision of a reserved table and an at seat service of the festive refreshments. Passenger feedback last year was that (with just one train in running meaning a service interval of 90 minutes, Weybourne Station closed as the Santaland marquees and grotto occupy the whole car park and station building and the Railway Cottage, Museum and Model Railway at Holt all ‘winterised’) Day Rover tickets aren’t the attraction they are for the main season and they would rather have a guaranteed seat at a table/in a compartment for their exclusive use.

Advance sales show the enhanced offering is very popular with passengers.

Always felt that it was the B12 & J15 steam dream in 2002, then the acquisition of the WD in 2005, that showed the NNR was moving in to the ‘big league’.

I suggest that the NNR loco policy is dictated more by what's available

Merry Xmas and thank you for all the updates. The progress of the LNER stock has been of particular interest this year and the prospect of two mainline carriages tripling that fleet in the near future must be exciting for all concerned, whilst the quality of the restorations and refurbishments on the mark ones and DMUs makes even these relatively common everyday workhorses, something quite special on the NNR - Well done! ps I really enjoy reading your progress reports on your class 104 also

Thank you very much. We have been very fortunate over the years to have had a few teams willing to restore the "right" vehicles that have slowly fitted into a strong overall strategy, along with funding at the right times. We have tried not to waste resources on what may be white elephants. Whilst it's true our Gresley Buffet has not had friends to run with for many years, we have the vehicles to redress this and Rome wasn't built in a day.

I am certainly looking forward to being part of fitting the "new" LNER stock into our existing operation.

As is traditional, the final C&W Blog of the year reflects back on the previous 12 months and gives some ideas about what we are planning to undertake next year. For those who don't avidly read the blog each and every issue, this is a particularly useful post for catching up on what has been covered and what is (likely) to come:

I often wonder if the NNR is the right place for the WD and Black Prince, two 2-10-0s on a 5 mile line.

I don’t mean this as a criticism as such, when they were acquired who could’ve foreseen such events as covid, the huge rise in coal prices etc, but does their ‘big engine draw’ justify their use when something smaller would do the same job?

Black Prince’s overhaul, when it begins will no doubt be a huge and costly operation. While it is a very popular locomotive, does its presence on the line really improve visitor numbers to warrant the expense of operating it?

Not saying a move back to industrials is the way, 76084 seems to have proven itself as a perfect locomotive for the line, and the B12, Y14 and N2 are priceless relics being the sole survivors of their classes (and rare ex-LNER types).

Just late night musings. Certainly not intended as a slight to anyone who works so tirelessly to keep this beautiful railway running.

Well they could plan their overhauls so that only one is in service at any given time.

If you're looking at suitability to the current operation of the line, then are the B12, Y14 and N2 the most suitable? Just because they are 'priceless relics' does not make them entirely suitable...

Just a musing to counter yours!!

I guess it’s a question of what is suitable, what is historically accurate and most importantly what is actually available

It was an extraordinary thing when the M&GN JRS and NNR didn't have an overhaul queue. I doubt we'll see that again. The idea of Black Prince awaiting its restoration undercover at Bressingham is a good one. Temporary swap for the E4 or J17?
