suggest the sandboxes on top of the MWs boiler were black, others that show they
were probably green.

Curiously, Lew's cab back sheet was unlined green, unlike the other MWs, and
unlike normal SR practice. Of course, the loco was painted by MW.

The MWs were not identical in various ways, so there could have been livery
style differences. We will never be certain now. However, the balance of
probability is that tank tops were black, the MW boilers were green with lined
boiler bands, and the cab fronts were unlined green.

So, you have to make up your own mind...."

The K1 looks great looking forwards to seeing it in Manchester along with many other Garratts attending of all differant sizes.
Plus you can visit the remaining elements of the Beyer-peacock works in Gorton, on the 15-16 August.

The WHRC do publish a loco roster, so you can always check that before your visit.

Is "Monarch" attending this vent from the WLLR? When I drove by Welshpool today it looked ready to be loaded onto a road vehicle.

It may be articulated but it's not a Garratt, nor is it a Beyer Peacock product. Are other types of articulated
locomotive attending?

I know that, but it looks like its about to move somewhere and tyhat seemed like a plausible destination - I haven't heard of any other possibilities. Of course, it would be nice if it waas going somewhere to be put into working order.

Monarch is currently on display on the 'ski slope' at Welshpool - I believe it is just for the summer and will return to Llanfair afterwards for further renovation work.

I know that, but it looks like its about to move somewhere and tyhat seemed like a plausible destination - I haven't heard of any other possibilities. Of course, it would be nice if it waas going somewhere to be put into working order.

Regretably, as best I understand it, she has just been moved there for "summer display". She left Llanfair at 07:30 on Saturday 25th July and was towed slowly down to Welshpool and shunted on to the unloading or Ski Ramp.

As yet it is rather unclear as to when she might return for the continuation of her cosmetic overhaul.

As you say, it would be superb if she was to be restored to working order, but alas she doesn't feature in the plans of the current regime.

Still, things change in time, who knows what the future holds. After all, she is somewhat unique [-o< .

I do not believe she is off to Manchester.

nope not going to Manchester
sorry to say the "duke" will not be attending but managed to get a replacement,
L&Y "ironclad" 957 from the KWVR this is a beyer-peacock built locomotive so should fit in well to the event and in steam at the event
