Is that just a hunch or is there evidence for this?

I don't think that individual has any control over either 34007 or Riley's Engineering - not according to Companies House anyway!

Said individual is funding the return of 34007 to steam and the main line . Said individual is also listed as a person of significant control in a company along with Ian .

Cost of a connection to National Rail for occasional use would be hard to justify.

Other than Ian's locos coming back for annual work, the vast majority of stuff passing through is from preserved lines.

Depends on who negotiated it, when and the ongoing terms. Your comment is ill-informed.

Does Ian need railway access though, he has the ELR very close, that has an NR connection, and any loco that's NR registered can always travel to Bury and then by road to his works, that's how his 5's will be transported I would imagine, then once overhauled or serviced, they can be run in on ELR metals, before venturing back onto the main line, I would imagine that will be how movements are made. non mainline stuff can be roaded straight into his works.

Correct, deals within deals, co-operation. That's how it works.

Probably makes more sense for Nemesis or that outfit in Hamilton that look after the Royal Scotsman set but with the ELR round the corner, a few localised moves probably costs less than a mainline connection even if the work possibility shoots up. I've seen some really large numbers for a connection with limited usage. But Riley has an idea of the work he wants and doesn't seem to be in short supply of it.

Good news from Ian Riley & Son (E) Ltd. <BJ>

''At last!, two years after initially viewing our New builds in Bury, and eleven months after moving premises, Rileys now finally own our new works with solicitors 'Completion' actually taking place today. This is the first time that the current Riley & Son (E) Ltd have actually owned, rather than renting their works property! a real achievement speaking volumes for the business and our dedicated hard working staff'' [IMG][IMG]

Derek's yard at Kirkby was a nice facility.
