2025 Returnees and Withdrawals

Usually seems to have been a thread for yearly expected returnees and withdrawal from traffic for locos, haven't seen one this year so thought it might be worth creating one.

Return to service
- 7802 Bradley Manor
- 4150 (possible 2nd half of year)

 

7802 returning shortly . Currently at Tyseley and being steam tested. A few jobs remain before transfer to Bridgnorth late this month. Sister 7812 is on the SVR until just after Easter then moves to the WSR for the remainder of 2025 & whole of seasons 2026 - 7.

4150 a likely return in the second half of this year.

7812 & 4150 left Barry coupled together......

 

35006 "Peninsular and Oriental Line S.N.Co" and 7903 "Foremarke Hall" both bow out at the GWSR this year.

70013 "Oliver Cromwell" a possible contendeŕ for a return at the GCR.

Q class 541 and maybe H class 263 as returnees at the Bluebell

 

5029 "Nunney Castle" and 71000 "Duke of Gloucester" also contenders for returnees.

34046 "Braunton" also likely to bow out this year or 2026

 

6430 is due to bow out in May for the 10 yearly,

Austerity “Haulwen” will be back in service.

 

We are led to expect 35005 return to service.

 

41312 is also in its final year too at the MHR

TVR 85 is also in its final year at Keighley

 

541 possibly, I don't think we'll see 263 this year.

34101? Been slated for a return to traffic every year since at least 2016!

 

Hopefully N2 1744 at the North Norfolk Railway should be returning this year as well.

 

A1/x W8 Freshwater should be returning early this year.

 

AE1973 'Dora' should be steaming soon at KWVR. Some nice pics of it complete inside Rileys old workshop on faceache.

 

RSH Austerity W/N 7289 'Fred' is returning to traffic tomorrow at the Battlefield Line's Winter Warmer Gala - to my knowledge the first returnee of 2025 (and Fred's first period back in traffic since, I believe, the late 70s!)

Peckett 0-4-0ST 2012 'Teddy' will, all being well, also be returning to traffic following overhaul this year. To be nominally based at the Battlefield Line

 

K1 62005's boiler is very close to a hydraulic test so hopefully the locomotive will be back in steam this year

On the Narrow Gauge - Ffestiniog Railway locos Prince and Taliesin should be back this year, and I believe both Merddin Emrys and Blanche will bow out. Welsh Pony should be back in service too, although that one has been out for over a year because of wheelset issues rather than for a new boiler ticket, though the timescales from withdrawal to return aren't much different to Prince!

I believe 80135 at the NYMR could return this year.

Along with Newstead at the Spa Valley.

 

30065, and hopefully 4253, plus Sapper, at the KESR. Don't think we've got any bowing out.

 

I'll believe that when I see it! More likely than 34101, but I think 81035 will be next year and 34101 goodness knows when! N0-one has mentioned 63395, following cylinder replacement, but I think that's a probable returnee this year, too.

 

4247 should return in the first half of the year and 46447 was withdrawn late 2024. Both at East Somerset Railway
