Reported on Facebook as another final run for 46100, with D213 as tail end Charlie. A wet and windy Holyhead on a Monday afternoon, lovely!

 

Someone on Railways of North Wales has this down̈ for 34046. BRAUNTON

 

Has 34046 returned from pre Christmas work out of Southall ( away over Christmas and may have missed that move) ?

 

Why send Braunton all the way to Holyhead? 46100 Royal Scot far better for a last run, at least it will be on former LMS rails

I wondered what the occasion was.

46100 passing the tidal pool at Bagillt and breaching the town walls at Conwy.

 

RTT shows the working from Holyhead to Valley and back to turn the loco as "Light Locomotive", implying not even a support coach. One wonders what Mr H and his associates will have found to entertain them for three hours in Holyhead.

 

Think that is usual for turning moves at Valley

 

I didn't mean to pass any judgement about the passengers; only to wonder how they might spend three hours in Holyhead.

I mentioned that only to confirm that all the passengers would have been left in Holyhead.

 

The pub scene is pretty dire there so you can’t even drown your sorrows in decent ale.

 

Well said. Strewth, Holyhead is a terrible place. It's a ferry port, a rail terminus, and nothing else.

 

If it is indeed as bad as reputed, should we not pity the folk who actually live there?

 

Holyhead itself is pretty dire, but Anglesey (Ynys Mon!) itself is beautiful. Best thing to do when you arrive in Holyhead is get a taxi out of there! South Stack lighthouse isn't far and is spectacular, but even that isn't a very good option for a grey January afternoon..

 

It is possible to walk to the country park on the outskirts of Holyhead and see the beautiful coastline.Only 10 minutes according to googlemaps
