Just wondering if anyone had heard anything about what is happening with the B&W's plans to extend to Wadebridge since it's been a while since i heard anything on the subject.
    Any information would be great.

I think they gave up, the website was taken down with all the plans on it and I haven't heard anything for ages too.

I woulden't say they have given up, more so as many are finding these days issues with red tape and less than co operative people, possibly including our favourite bike riding nazi party...

Well there'll just have to be a most unfortunate accident involving a kango hammer then. Suck a shame!

Why can't they get on with us, and have a pathway and a railway. It wouldn't harm them and it means that they can go for a bike ride and then get a train back. The two should work hand in hand.

What a shame i so dearly wanted to see steam return to Wadebridge as the town really needs something else apart from the cyclists.

A slightly harsh broad tar brush statement perhaps, but I do think there needs to be better protection of facilities in terms of returning them to their original use. Railways, public buildings etc. Wadebridge is a case where there is much potential in returning the railway to it. I think it will happen one day.

Not if S******s have anything to do with it. An completely non-democratic movement that seems to be a law unto itself.

One thing that does annoy me about said plonkers is they seem totally oblivious to the fact that bikes have these things called gears for going up hills, hence their fetish for old trackbeds, i've never understood why you'd be on a bike if your allergic to anything steeper than 1 in 100 ](*,)

    Extract from http://crapwalthamforest.blogspot.com/2 ... trans.html

"A significant proportion of the cycling community seems to disagree with the aims and objectives of Sustrans, let alone the practical effects of its work. So why don't these objectors join the organisation and have a say in the way it's run?

Put simply, Sustrans, a registered charity, is a company limited by guarantee. In other words, it has no shareholders, just members. It's run by a group of (currently eleven) trustees who are appointed by the members of the company. The members of the company are the existing trustees, which means that the existing trustees appoint their successors.

Many people talk of 'joining' Sustrans – Sustrans originally used the expression itself but no longer seems to do so – and of being members of the organisation but they're not. They are simply supporters and donors. They have no right to participate in the decision-making of the organisation. They cannot attend the AGM of the organisation, they cannot vote on its policies, and they cannot decide who they would like to see running the organisation."

Doesn't this raise questions where our taxes go to?

There may be an announcement within the next few weeks regarding a Cornish rail/cycle trail - watch this space as they say!

I was just about to post to say why can't both cycling and rail be accommodated together - and in places where it is too tight, its not the end of the world to divert the cycle path for a few yards. It would be great cycling along admiring the scenery - and the passing trains. Ideal!

Interestingly such a scenario exists between Hampton Loade and Highley alongside the SVR. The cycle track has some sharp, but quite short, climbs that add interest to the cyclist's ride. An example of very comfortable co-existance.

If you feel strongly enough that Sustrans uses public money in an undemocratic manner and want to contact your MP you could use e-mail by following the attached link. http://www.writetothem.com/ You could even use the link for any other legitimate communication.

I can sometime happen the other way around - see viewtopic.php?f=46&t=19928

This is just as bad - a lot of hard work done by locals undone by NR just plonking something down.

I'm wondering: could this possible announcement refer to a stretch of line on another Cornish heritage railway (for example Newmills to Egloskerry) or is it concerned with the Bodmin-Wadebridge route?

Is it not possible for the cycle track to go along a "shelf" above the bank as done with Cycle Route 45 at Hampton Loade?

with the wentfordbridge to wadebridge line is there room for the line to be relaid next to the cycle path , i always thought that there was very limited clearances on sections of this line, being a single track formation, i for one, would love to see the railway back into wadebridge but because of the clearance problems i cant see it happening, in a previous post someone made mension of the cycleing organisation , was there a situation where a local railway revival wanted to re open a trackbed that this organisation had been given and they quoted some very high price to sell it back?

In the previous post i called cyclists 'twonks' for this I apologise, as not all of them are,but in the past Sustrans were given lengths of disused trackbed for nominal fees like £1 & for what? bike riding?? I know some on here ride bikes , good, but I object to quango's like this jumping in on our preservation plans.

Trust me, most of them who use the Camel Trail are!

There is a simple rule, bikes give way to everyone else

    Do they?

    What do you think?

They fly along at breakneck speed and, if you are lucky, they ring their bell just before you jump and then they have near miss with you

Twonks would be a very reasonable comment
