The two EMU trailers that were at Grantown East are on the move and are apparently headed to Devon.

Two LWB goods chassis are to be moved from the GCR. These are the remains of a BR 20T brake van (B955172) and the SR Steam Heat van S 70185. The poor picture shows them awaiting movement from Rothley.

They've gone today, I've received a photo of them from their new owner. Exactly what his plans for them are, I'm unsure, and it isn't for me to say anyway. They've gone to a private site in the Midlands.

I did however add the vacuum pipe from my Conflat (B737695) to the pile before they left, as the same chap is supposed to be making a nearly exact replica of it for Palbrick B462772. I say nearly exact, because the Conflat pipe has an extra bend in it which shouldn't be there. So he'll repair that as well. Well, that is the plan. Getting a 16' length of pipe from Swithland to Rothley on my own on Saturday evening was interesting, to say the least. (There is only one joint, and it's only about a foot from one end, so may as well not be there.) I used a pair of rail skates (with possession arranged of the Up line during a gap in services) and the whole ensemble only fell off about six times on the way. A trolley would have been easier, but the chap with the keys for the trolley had gone home...

EDIT: Not that that last paragraph is in any way relevant to this thread; I don't think moving 1% of an otherwise not-moving vehicle counts... ;-)

I feel for you. I once turned up to a guard's turn, to find the driver loading 50'+ of pipe into the rear cab of our class 33. I asked him what on earth he was doing, and he said we were going to turn an unfitted coach underframe into a piped coach underframe for the day, using two pipe ends, that huge pipe, and some string. I think it was at that point I blocked my roster clerk's phone number....

Don't think this has been mentioned before. Two 1960s "vanwides" have moved to the Bluebell, having been purchased by the B350 group (owners of the 09 and class 33). The vans were part of a group of 10 such wagons that have entered preservation (thanks to the efforts of the National Wagon Preservation Group) having been previously used at MoD Marchwood .

The new arrivals are 4228 (Originally B783270) and 4224 (Originally B783912). they were originally built in 1962 and rebuilt in 1982 with air brakes and improved suspension / roller bearings. The intention is that they will be used for storage but also available for use in the heritage fleet as required.

    Whatever happened to CK 25853?
Has West Sussex County Council found a new tenant for it after they put it up for 'Expressions of Interest'?

The two vanwides have now arrived at the Bluebell (23 May 2025), and accordingly have entries in our stock book:
