The Diesel Gala will be taking palce over the weekend of July 25th and 26th.

    Visiting loco is:
37 294 - fresh into preservation, and at the time of writing not yet fired up in preservation!

    Also featuring should be:
    D.5600, D.9513 (full line following cooling system rebuild), 08 054, D.1524, 31 119, 08 773, D.2203, MDHB No.36 - fresh from overhaul.

There are also stalls being arranged as an additional bonus!

Details will follow over the next few days and weeks, along with the timetable which is nearly complete!

37294 has had work completed and is now ready to be fired up.

D9513 is making good progress with the modifications to the cooler group almost complete. These works should allow it to travel full line in service, rather than overheating. It lost its original radiator before preservation... and the replacement wasn't up to the full line working required. It now takes standard elements (from a 47??) if I remember correctly!

Yes I am an active volunteer
Is 37294 likely to work AFTER the gala - unfortunately clashes with my annual pilgrimage to North Cornwall..!

    Almost certainly not!

Full timetable is in production and should be here in the next couple of days.

Loco was fired up - some more bits to do, but only minor...

What's the motive power for the bbq trains, please, and how many round trips?

Good to see some railways can issue a roster almost 2 months in advance.Others cannot even issue one for tomorrows gala-even though it may be a repeat of yesterday-well done.

Well done with the advanced gen / roster \:D/ =D>

Looking forward to it after enjoying the 2007 and 2008 galas.

Is 08054 not doing so good?

    Cheers

BEEREX - 3-4 round trips on offer - motive power is the 37 - especially as it is the visiting loco!

08054 requires some re-wiring - an electrical component was discovered to be soaked / swimming, and time has not been available to swap bits over and rewire with all the work carried out on the Class 14, No.36, the Class 37, the Class 31s and the 47 to get them ready for the gala....... It will be tackled thoroughly soon as a lot of spares have been acquired for it.

36 is now very nearly complete. The class 14 had its first (proper) exhauster refitted, the second will follow soon following a complete stripdown. Since entering preservation it has had a single exhauster of a different type tot he originals. THis has now been rectified. Work on the cooler group continues to adapt it to take Class 56 rad elements, and patch corrosion. THe little tin worms have been hungry...

    Cheers Tim

Sounds a hell of a lot of work going on to get the fleet ready for the gala =D> =D>

Is D5600 being "reunited" with its Newton Heath plates for the event like last year?

    Best Regards

    Tim

One of the footplate crew has just told me this is 27th & 28th June. Can you confirm it's definitely 25/26 July (as it says on E&BAR website).

[Edit: One of the drivers has just confirmed it as definitely the last weekend in July - bugga - I'm in the Hebrides that weekend #-o ]

We've now agreed to have a "Weekend Rover" ticket - valid for all travel on the two days APART from the BEEREX and BBQ on Saturday. This is only £25, therefore saving anyone who wants to travel on both days some extra cash (which you're very welcome to spend on getting to us / stopping over / joining us on the BEEREX!!)

    Hope that helps!

    (We do listen...)

Following further discussions, we ahve decided to drop our prices slightly, so our new "CREDIT CRUNCH" prices are:

    Adult Day Rover £12
    Child Day Rover £5

Weekend Rover (valid for travel on both days, NOT BBQ & BEEREX) £20

We hope that helps in these financial times....

Finally - a gentle reminder as to behaviour. We are sure there won't be any problems, but please be aware and considerate towards our members, your fellow visitors and the general public. Many thanks!

Well if that's your attitude, I might have to find somewhere to stay overnight \:D/

Incidentally, is the bbq a set meal or all you can eat? :D

More likely to be a set meal, but I'll confirm later on when I know. I can say it's very good stuff!!

37 294 has now run under its own power following all the hard work by the volunteers to reasemble parts of the engine following persons unknown tampering with it prior to its arrival...

The 37 has now carried out a test run with ECS. I'll try to dig out a photo from one of the people who was there!

The Class 14's cooler group redesign has progressed well and is almost ready for fitting.

Just another update on the locos:
The class 37 has had a few more niggles ironed out
The class 14's cooler group modifications have been completed, it has been trial fitted and the elements are almost all in, barring two which currently have a small leak to be corrected. Its cooling should now be better than it ever has been!

08054 will notbe taking part, but will be on display as there just hasn't been time to correct the faults, which have now been narrowed down to burnt out wiring, probably owing to water ingress. It will be tackled fairly soon afterwards from what I can gather.

MDHB No.36 is looking very good now with the last components being painted up and bolted back on. If anyone has an MDHB crest, we'd be very interested in getting a copy...

I've received my copy of the working timetable and it looks like a really good show will be put on over the weekend. Fingers crossed for decent weather. We're working near Holywell Halt on the Sunday and are looking forward to the procession of trains.
