Things are going well for the old girl, with the limited 2020 season being extended a little.

BBC in Scotland reports that seventeen people were injured. Arrangements had to be made to get folk back home as well, which took a while. The vessel has to go into dry dock for repair so probably that may be it for this year.

After all the previous bumps I'm surprised they are not a lot more careful when approaching piers.

Is this the same crew as hit Rothesay in '17?

Although unwise to randomly speculate at this stage the more reliable accounts suggest the possibility of a malfunction of steam reversing gear.

The only marine triple expansion engine I have much experience on working was on the SS Freshspring, a much smaller machine with a 'rotary' reversing engine - and a right !?!** it was, but in extremis you could haul the thing over by hand.

Waverley has 'Steam Hydraulic' - similar to loco power reversers, there is an 'emergency' gear where you can pump it over by hand but its not something that can be done at the drop of a hat.

    A good report here

A paddle steamer should have better "brakes" than a screw-driven vessel, because a screw is less effective astern whereas paddles should be equally good in either direction. However evidently something went wrong and we wait to find out what.

If as claimed (and I have no reason to doubt it) the Waverley Excursions people have not had any direct contact from those starting the legal action, then this sounds like a bunch of ambulance chasers getting in on the act (No offense to any of the people genuinley injured, but the Solicitors wording of their statement does seem over emphasised).

Something stinks, and I suspect that the solicitor may be applying for a job on Trump's team with that modest a set of claims.

I have experienced this, not on Waverley

'Oswald, the water gets shallow here' 'Yes I know' 'We are getting very close to that barge' 'Dont worry' 'That barge is very close now' 'Sorry someone has b*****d about with the HP Piston Valve and we cant start the engine - hang on!'

    Crash

It was a WW2 vintage concrete one so no harm done
