This is indeed what is happening, 75079 group are happy to make extra copies of bits that are then earmarked for 80150. The Standard 4 tank has a lot of goodwill shown to it, only the other weekend, at War on the Line, a benefactor dropped off a substantial cheque for 80150 in the info office at Alresford

Can you shed any light on what happened to the 75079 blog?

Motion on a Std 4 4-6-0 is totally different to that on a Std 4 2-6-4 tank.

I always thought that the 80xxxs were based on the running gear of the 75xxx but with the smaller boiler of the 76xxx are you saying the 80xxx have more in common with the 76xxx?
Or is it as I expect a case of standards are only standard in name only, that whilst there will be some interchangeability, the class 4 engines are all different .

The firebox and taper barrel of the boiler are identical on the 75XXXs and 80XXXs. The front boiler barrel on the 75XXXs is 9" longer than that on a 80XXX and there are a few detail differences on the exterior of the boilers. The 75XXXs have a longer smokebox than the 80XXXs.
The motion on the 76XXXs and 80XXXs are similar, but not the same.

My guess is that with the BR standards was that they thought/hoped there would be at least hundreds of each class, so standardising across classes wouldn't be that vital. Whether there was any chance of that is another discussion.

The motion for 80150 will be big expense for sure, but many of the smaller but no less important parts are common, such as roof ventilator guides, ash pan mechanism etc are common. We have installed some ex 75079 springs (only as a stop gap measure) to enable BOLSO to be moved without de-railing. The 75079 group are also helping out in other ways, such as painting 80150's new cab roof!

Re blogs for 75079, I do not now the specific reason for lack of Blog activity, sorry.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is BOLSO? I must have missed something!

BOLSO = 80150, it's widely known around the railway as BOLSO due to a mis-reading of the numbering at some point in the dim and distant past.

The paint was very faded and someone misread the number adding letters and not numbers...hence BOLSO

It isn’t, but the roads around aren’t bad. Especially if you can get off the A roads.

Any news on the overhaul of 35005. All seems to have gone very quiet on the news front since the project manager left. In fact the last update on the MHR site was June 2016.
