Wasn't there a barney between WC and A1ST concerning BR green v. LNER green back at the beginning? Or is my remaining grey cell misfiring (again)!

Isn't thats whats been said ? OK, you tell me then is there any truth in what others, have posted, I was merely repeating and questioning whats been said, by others, and if you read my post, i have questioned just how much is truth after all the engines only just been outshoped, and the Apple green, with British Railways on the tender, Is early 1950's anyway, or very close to that timescale.

You and "others" have no sight of the contract, so you are all spreading false information. If you have the contract to hand, I suggest the conventors will be most interested. Judging by other posters on here and the mushroom management they are being fed by the board of trustees, they'd be very interested.

"As part of this arrangement, we have agreed to enable the locomotive to appear in late 1950s condition to align with the appearance of these express trains, recreating the last decade of regular steam in the UK."
Well, it doesn't say green, but I doubt there were any running in blue by "late 1950s... what other construction do you place on the above words from the trust's chairman?

I'll believe when I see it. I took no part in the A1 construction, financially, but based on the successful build and operation I've made a substantial contribution to the P2. This was a dream to me, to see a very elegant locomotive reconstruted in my lifetime. I no longer feel that will happen without a solid engineering and management based which it seems it doesn't now posseess. .So no more money from me..

So you do agree in part then with me, as your statement about lack of skills to finish the build, mirror my thoughts, I contributed to the A1 when it was being built, but not to the P2 because my own circumstances changed, otherwise I might have, Its just as well that Tornado, is now under the care of WCRC, I have more faith in their abilities than of the people running the A1 Trust, and for the sake of the loco, I hope it settles down and runs reliably

Just a reminder, Tornado has not been sold to West Coast, it is merely running it for the next 3 years under a hire agreement. This type of agreement is used by nearly all steam locomotive owners across the country - either for a day, weekend, season or duration of boiler ticket. The A1st still own, manage and continue to make all important decisions relating to the locomotive.

Most of the important decisions. The most important of all - the precise location of the absorption and emission peaks in the electromagnetic spectrum of the liquid-based molecular surface protection layer - are seemingly made by discussion on fora such as this!

I think this is the problem... lack of of info from the A1ST has caused the rumour mill to start up.

I doubt the A1 trust has decided to change the delivery of a freshly painted locomotive without there being external pressure to do so

Possibly - though I await the outcome of the full examination at 10A before that conclusion can be regarded as sound.

But the issue isn't a hire agreement - they are exactly what you say they are. It's the extent of that agreement for an organisation that hasn't previously done that, announced when and how it was announced - and with what has happened in this rapid overhaul, what that says about the nature of the implied contract between donors and charity. That is where trust has been foregone, as for example in @osprey's post #9207 above. And it is there that the Trust need to shift perceptions in order for them to regain something like their former strength.

Well, they've ripped the tubes out twice, bent the firebox, carved bits off the tyres and replaced the grate so what's a coat of paint? By this time the Trust must be clutching at straws to get it running and if it's taken off their hands for three years it would be a welcome release. It then leaves them free to pick up the pieces for their other useless project and attempt to rebuild some street cred!

That's certainly one way of looking at it! I'm not sure it's an approach designed to build credibility, street or otherwise

Late 1950s vibe was the trust’s plan. Steam was getting a bit ratty by then….they’re nailing the brief, cut them some slack! :D

Be happy, Tornado is on the way back, fit and well., 10A will have worked their magic on it. (I know what colour I would like it to be, it would cause a few pacemakers to jump up and down a bit. ):D
