I did two tours as a kid, c. 1969 : Donny - London and Sheff - Cleethorpes, still got the tour programme signed by Pegler.

I’d have been 13 and my bro, in my charge, was 11. So here we are today, FS has a lot to answer for! My bro was clearly immune however, and our parents somehow escaped charges of neglect. Different times as they say.

Because they have all been parked, and turned off, look up the treatment of the 55002 group, after all of the work they carried out, as an example.
The NRM have no intention of any of their diesel's being used, lest going mainline, it is in a recent report.

Quick LNER to York, Scotsman to Scarborough, Mother Hubbards for Fish n Chips, Scotsman back to York, LNER home.
A great day out, in the days she did a morning and Afternoon return trip, before the ££££ overhaul.
As you say, a huge market to exploit, York is not short of tourists all summer.

I think the first time I saw 60103 was at night, with my then girlfriend (later wife) when it went to March to turn at Whitemoor. This was the night before the infamous run where the mass trespass got out of hand near Grantham (?) that nearly saw a ban on it running, so 1980s I think?

Only occasion I've been behind it was on the Alan Pegler Farewell tour.

You need to think about the bigger picture of what has happened - transitions can be messy and complicated in my business experience.

Or...down from Newcastle or Durham for a day at Scarborough. If only the NRM had the sense to make money for itself and borrow WCRC to help them out.

As for trespass and all that. If it was up and down between York and Scarborough regularly enough the lineside novelty would wear off and folk would simply ride the train instead.

This was my first time I saw Flying Scotsman. I've still technically never been a passenger on a train hauled by the loco ...

One is lack of stabling and routine maintenance facilities at York, which is one reason why WCR dropped the diesel/steam SSEs.

Ditto. Looking at my books, one of the last 34A A3s I needed. There's a class of loco an impecunious youth could never hope to complete!

Only journey in summer 16 on the Waverley both ways via Low Fell because the S and C was closed at Eden Brows.

I wonder what fare a return from York to Scarborough would command.

My first Scotsman experience was as an 8 year old in May 2000, standing in Slough station car park as it came rushing through the station on a charter heading for Paignton (Scotsman ran as far as Newton Abbot as a Transport Festival was on). I remember feeling somewhat awed by the sight, even though I'd seen and been behind steam several times before.

Me and my Grandad were on a diesel rail tour heading for the same event and passed it at Newbury Racecourse and watched it arrive at Newton Abbot Racecourse. I have some pictures of me next to the loco whilst it was displayed in the station.

The only time I've been behind it was during it's visit to the Bluebell in 2017.

I was privileged to catch these two stabled together near Yeerongpilly stn as they warmed down after their run up to Brisbane in 1989.

Well Dan, my first sight of it was when it ran down to Brighton on a tour in September 1966 as it ran through my childhood home station at Haywards Heath
    66-9-17 1b 4472.jpg

I seem to have been plagued by it ever since - and yes, it even caught up with me in Melbourne in 1988:(.

Many thanks for sharing, given it's my local station and this is the only photo I've seen of that trip from Haywards Heath (though I do have a DVD of Alan Pegler's Tender Memories film and there's a clip of the loco that the voiceover says is the suburbs of Haywards Heath and I've seen a picture of it at Copyhold Junction).

As someone born in 1991, I've only ever known the loco with double chimney and smoke deflectors, so I do yearn to see the locomotive in Apple Green and single chimney condition someday.

That’s the only way I’ve seen it in the flesh, and it was magnificent and far more elegant than present condition IMHO. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder they say!

My first Scotsman sighting that I can recall is the summer of 1964 when I saw her heading south light engine at Arlesey.
