    Amidst all the controversy concerning new builds, it is reassuring that NELPG is continuing its longstanding traditions of coping in the face of adversity! A newly cast and machined replacement cylinder for the Q6 has been delivered to Grosmont and I believe that work on fitting it is about to start, with the potential for this much-loved veteran to return to service this summer. It would be good if there was a lot more on this forum about other overhaul work going on around the country - we should be appreciate what we already have more than seems to be the case rather than have the forum dominated by a few high risk, and years away from fruition, new build projects.

    I am in full agreement. The constant dripping about struggling new-build projects has driven many away .

    I suspect that many would love to read about less well known projects, but unless someone takes the time to write a post, then nothing will change.

    I don’t disagree with the essence of this post but if and when someone posts about the overhaul, although it will be appreciated by many, it is unlikely to generate any subsequent posts unless it raises questions. For that reason posts about problems are always going to generate more responses and make for more interesting reading. Taking the Q6 cylinder replacement as an example, it’s a great achievement and if it all goes smoothly what can you really say, other than well done? If it doesn’t fit, that’s a whole new can of worms and people will naturally start to talk about it and start to speculate as to why.

    Good news! Given the positive comments on the 3mt tank project, Canpac's re-entry to service etc etc, I'd say these things are welcomed.

    One might point out that given the negative discussions around the NYMR commercials to date, the way the OP's post is framed could look somewhat loaded. The refitting of a cylinder block is a good thing, but perhaps posting it on it's own rather than suggesting that it has been ignored for other reasons would improve things.

    Sorry to disappoint you, but my post was solely seeking to publicise the NELPG good news.
    Sorry to disappoint you, but I only intended to promote NELPG in my post. I'd do the same for the NYMR if there was anything going on worthy of mention. In the interests o fairness, I think there have been some recent posts about the NYMR's conversion of the S160 to oil firing, but I haven't seen them. I may have a reputation for dissing the NYMR generally but that's actually because bI want them to succeed and exposing some of the ongoing disasters is perhaps the only way of shaking them loose from their cloak of naivety/complacency.

    I'd not worry about dissappointing me, but it's worth pointing out I had no idea you post about the NYMR in that way. My comment was to point out that updates on rebuilds etc are positively received when not coupled to on-going debates about wider topics.
