I rode up on the railcar on one of the days and was sat with a paid member of staff. As we rode into the Goathland he remarked to me something like “look at all those passengers waiting for us and the Whitby train with nothing to do apart from use the tea room. It’s a pity it’s shut. “ the platform was thronged; at least a hundred and fifty people, probably more. A handwritten notice stuck on the door simply said ‘cups of tea available in the shop.’ Very much an afterthought probably put up by a harassed member platform staff.

Well done the ‘volunteer from Pickering’ who has got on to the Nick Ferrari show on LBC to highlight the struggle the railway faces with the NI rise and the cost of coal. NYMR mentioned by name and ‘runs from Pickering to Whitby’ :)

Can anyone please recommend a taxi firm that is reliable (and ideally doesn't cost the earth!) that can do the Malton to Pickering run? I'm thinking of visiting for the Autocar via pubic transport and neither the Grosmont Northern trains nor the Malton-Pickering buses work out timing wise for my connections on a Sunday...

The NYMR use Station taxis 01751 617181. I’ve no experience of using them, though, only arranging for them to pick up others.

    Use
    https://takeme.taxi/our-locations/malton/
Taxi firm is based at Malton Station, was Station Taxis now rebranded as Takeme Taxis. If arriving at Malton railway station you can book ahead using their app or if actually at the station then their office is just outside to the left. If the office is unmanned then there is a button on the taxi office door, press that and it shows you a three digit number. Pressing the button summons a taxi, and the taxi driver on arrival simply shouts out the next number in the queue.

I’m sure this has been asked before but I can’t see anything via Google…

Can anyone tell me about the origin of LHJC 29’s whistle? I’ve heard it before but saw a video on social media today that reminded me just how fantastic it is

There is a possibility that some of the pay rises in your list above, are driven by the forthcoming increase in the National Living Wage, either directly or by consequence of maintaining a pay differential between pay grades.

A huge gathering this morning at Grosmont where 60007 was the star of the show. Good start to the season hopefully.

Most 60007 trains are sold out. A good boost for the railways funds.

Good progress but it's an easy win which just shows what a shame it was that it wasn't possible, for whatever reason, to keep the loco based at the NYMR. Let's hope that it heralds a much better season for the NYMR than recent ones.

Its basically part of the LSL mainline fleet is it not? Why would staying at the Moors be a better option?

It is part of the LSL stable now, but that is a recent development. It was Grosmont based for many years, and that was due, in part at least, to where its supporting workforce came from (as evidenced by the fact that, having agreed to take on the mechanical overal of "Bittern", they are now looking a premises in the North East to do the work. A tie up with the A1 Trust or NELPG at Darlington would make a lot of sense imho.

You get more from Fox & Edward’s though, notably some light refreshments.

Up to you if you feel they are worth the additional £9.50, but you aren’t comparing like with like if you only look at price.

(Fox & Edward’s are I believe a tour company who have relationships with a number of lines, essentially block-booking a number of seats and then reselling them. From time to time we host them at the Bluebell, where the “value add” provided by them is often a meal of fish and chips in addition to the travel).

Currently there are just 12 single seats left and on the Sunday 10.30am departure if booked through the NYMR, all other seats now sold out, but there still appear seats available on all / most remaining services booked though Fox and Edwards.
