Aaah, so nice to read your comment re BR Black.

I used to say such things here but, quoting Basil Fawlty almost word for word. "That avenue of pleasure has been closed down. The great warning off of January 2025".:)

I'm reminded of a quote citing a particularly famous insult to the LNWR's blackberry black livery...

Pure fluke, whilst keeping my eye on over £250 in cash in a carrier bag I had to put on the floor to take it.

A nice sum of money for the charity she kindly volunteers for. Is that a local or wider ranging charity?

It is towards the fundraising for a new Village Hall at Herston. Comes from various events back end of last year and was basically all coin and hence has been in "we must count all this cash" pile for a while.

Lovely weather last evening. Today the sea fret rolled in, I felt it gave a nice moody atmosphere. DSC_0218r.jpg DSC_0223r.jpg DSC_0225r.jpg DSC_0226r.jpg

Well it is Rail 200 this year, so might as well have a loco design from that time........

Out of an abundance of caution, I understand it has since been decided that 4953 will haul Swanage - Norden trains using Corfe's Down line.
To avoid any risk of 'loco sway', perhaps, the use of the Up platform might have needed a very severe speed restriction which could have impacted the timetable adversely.
It seems to fit perfectly well elsewhere, with room to spare, which is amazing. Like many others, I had been led to believe that very few outside cylindered GWR engines would fit anywhere along the branch.

Not many GWR features evident in that group! No taper boilers or domeless boilers, never mind brass-work. Nice photo though.

You don't often see visible GWR design influences in the locos of the British Empire/Commonwealth. Although a large proportion were designed and built by Britain's private locomotive builders, those builders were mostly in Scotland and the North of England, well away from Swindon. Whereas a "Scottish look" was quite common overseas.

I note that Queensland Railways favoured boiler-top sandboxes, which were unusual in British practice. But they were used in some of William Adams' designs, such as the first of his GER 2-6-0s. But he had dropped this feature before he moved to the LSWR and built engines such as the T3 now running on the Swanage Railway.

A quick summary of QR steam motive power practice would be; early - British, late - American. Some home grown and some imported.

( sorry everybody - I don’t think we could get much further from Swanage ;))

From what I understand, the track is gauged from the base of the platform wall. This platform is 140 odd years old and the top is a few inches leaning out hence why the caution. Well done SR for their caution
