To me it’s just a later style of BR font. Having done a few studies of this for my O Gauge models I I’d say it’s a pretty close representation of the later 6” style numbers

The numerals on the 'newly-repainted' photograph are correctly coloured in straw, lined out in black, and are of the correct proportions and shape.
The white on the blue numerals are 'similar' in style. Many locos (including 60532) carry numerals that are incorrect, and often using 'standard' Gill Sans, but not the correct version used by BR.

How do you known just what Ian 'would rather have'? And from what I've seen over the years Carnforth 10A is well kitted out to do most (if not all) aspects of locomotive servicing and repair. Mr Riley has extensive experience and facilities (workforce second to none). 10A is not too shabby.
    Stop digging Martin.

A few years back i stopped contributing to A1SLT, not through any disaffection in fact the opposite... it all seemed to be working out well and i figured there were less well known and less'sexy' projects out there without a marketing and publicity machine that needed my few pennies more, if i had been a payed up member still i would no doubt have walked away from them about a year ago just to get my point across.

Now Tornado is 'fingers crossed' back up and running the A1SLT is back in a position win new fans/ pockets and call back the disillusioned.
For an organisation whose success has been built on selling the story and repeating the message to a paying audience I hope a few lessons have been learned about managing an empty stage.

:Banghead::Banghead: The disillusioned are not going to come back until they've got those b loody fonts right.:Banghead: Ye gods..........the machine was out and about yesterday after a long and traumatic lay off, hopefully it's fit and well, so now the focus has shifted to b loody paint and fonts.:Morewaitingisrequired:
I'll bet the Trust, Mr Riley, and Mr Smith are crying in their beer.

It's always good to get it right, whatever 'right' means but that said, I'm with you; the good news is that the machine is out and about, at last.

A good question would be...........has Mr Riley and/or 10A had to do anything with it since it transferred from NVR to Carnforth. Just curiosity, I know we won't get an answer
But, it's springtime, it's out and about, happy days.

Yes , now its the 'right colour its 'had a word with itself' and all those firebox stress distortions have relaxed and sorted themselves out...
Didnt find time to repaint the rusty smokebox which was somewhat at odds with the shiny paintwork...

Testing on the Cambrian next month apparently...

(From an industry source... not in A1SLT or WCRC so how correct this date will turn out to be, I don't know.)

    So to be clear

They couldn’t wait a few months to repaint so we could have seen an LNER apple green liveried A1 on a set of Gresley teaks in full teak livery

    Spectacular

Back to the ether I go

Was done a whack of times in its last ticket. Will not doubt be done a whack of time in the future. Was recently done with the B1.

Looking forward to it coming in its new paint job.

Footage from yesterday’s test run. In 30 years of watching steam on Wilpshire I have never seen anything dismiss the climb as easily as that, diesels included.

I looked at @Spamcan81's photo of 34081 double-heading 34092 on the ELR the other week.

I know which one looked the best, and it wasn't 34092.

Hot into email inbox, Tornado passed it's loaded test yesterday and is now in receipt of all necessary paperwork to work mainline passenger trains.
It is to move to Shrewsbury next week to commence ETCS testing, before commencing its mainline tour programme.
