A small query about the Whitby trip.
1Z54 lost over 40 minutes between Thirsk and Skelton Jn. Although there were other delays to up trains, not everything was affected.

    Thanks in anticipation

    Cheers, Neil

1Z54 arrived on time at Skelton Jn. but was held there rather than blocking Platform 5 for a considerable period. Apparently the Class 86 in Holgate sidings had run into electrical problems in the recently renewed head shunt there which is rarely used by an electric loco. The loco was ok but NR stopped it while they investigated the situation.

For the trips on the 29th, the RTC website is showing the WCME headed by Tangmere and the Edinburgh Flyer by 45212. On the same day there is a NBelle S&C Steam Special, this will presumably he headed by 44871 (44871 heads to 10A from K&WVR Gala duties on Monday 24th). However, things can and do change. One thing that has changed on RTT is the appearance of a couple of VAR paths on Wednesday 26th, 5M52 Carnforth Steamtown to Hellifield GL and 5M53 Hellifield GL- B'burn-Preston-Carnforth. Something (big) on a loaded test run?

Let's hope it is a certain A1 and it proves it's vocal detractors wrong. Certainly seems the most likely option after having its once over this week.

Mm? Just checked the website and it is shown in the steam specials section. There is a path 5Z59 from 10A to Hellifield on Saturday morning and the NB train 1Z58 Man Vic to Carlisle changes from 95mph to 60mph at Hellifield. Railway Herald has amended its listing to show that it is now diesel hauled - confusing!

edit: Rail Advent also states that it is to be diesel hauled.

The line speed on the S and C is 60 anyway.

The entry on their website for 29/3 definitely shows haulage by a heritage diesel engine!
Guess we will see on the day

Oswald is an idiot! I realised that I accessed the NB website via a link to a previous viewing and so got what I had seen previously and not the present version - mea culpa. So diesel all the way!

According to Rail Advent "Tornado" is now certified for main line running.

"The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust has announced that 60163 Tornado has been fully certified for use on the mainline.

This great news follows on from the 7th March light engine move from the Nene Valley Railway to Carnforth.

The trust says that the locomotive is now in fine condition, adding that it may be the ‘best’ it has ever been.

The locomotive is now fully fitted with European Train Control System – the digital signalling system that allows it to be used on the East Coast Main Line.

Tornado will run with West Coast Railways on Northern Belle trains as well as tours with Railway Touring Company.

The locomotive will appear in BR green to ‘harmonise’ with the rest of the fleet, which helps fill the need for an air-braked Class 8 locomotive at Carnforth".

Yes, but still requires it's loaded test run, which is widely predicted for tomorrow on the Hellifield circuit.

45212 heading north through Northumberland today, at the same time as the partial solar eclipse was doing its level best to be eclipsed itself by the overcast that rolled in this morning. 45212-(50)-fbook.jpg Eclipse-(3)-1049,-17-min-before-max-fbook.jpg
