I can't make the Spring Gala, but was thinking about visiting around the first May Bank Holiday in case 35005 would be running.

Many thanks, date now in my diary. I hope there will be some Glenn Miller Band music playing at Medstead and Four Marks station! :)

I think the MHR ought to be really happy with this afternoon’s episode of “Countryfile” - a decent length of favourable publicity.

A really interesting program with good publicity for the line. A few screenshots from the program:

Crikey, it were a fresh start to the day atop the hill, yesterday - more than a tad nippy!!! :Cold:

With only four like minded souls in attendance, works were a tad limited....... the two lads were tasked with bringing areas of the steel highfit into line with rest of the vehicle,ie, derusting and red oxiding all the bits that had been missed for one reason or another.........

For Muggin's 'Ere & Me Mucker, the first part of the morning was spent assessing things on LMS van M517317, especially the new south side door, the steps that we've taken to sort it out now means that it runs freely and doesn't catch anything as it travels! :)

The rest of the morning was taken up with a meeting, one that we couldn't get out of, but it proved to be productive, which is always a bonus........

In the afternoon, whilst the two lads cracked on with the highfit, it was decided that fitting the stops on the south side would be a good idea......... a simple enough task if you have what you need to hand.......... bolts are a good start, but did we have any of the size and length required?........ did we 'Eckers like! o_O You'd have thought that amongst all the nuts, bolts |& washers that we have, we'd have some M12's of a decent length......... erm......... the answer was no!!! :Banghead:

So, time was taken to scour for and source four bolts, nuts and washers with which to attach the stops...... after about an hour, we'd managed to find some! After that, more fun was had fitting the damn things, as this van seems to just want to fight us all the way....... :Arghh:

Still, by the end of play, they were on, and as a result, unlike last week, we'd actually managed to achieve something!!!! :D

As nice as it is to see Bulleid's in action, it was good to see 41312 back in trafiic & doing the honours along with 506.

@domeyhead. apologies for the late reply to you query, re the Lowmac......... atop the hill, its very rare that we paint anything red - all buffer beams & headstocks are done in black, so I doubt very nuch that the vehicle would've had red buffer beams & headstocks, unless it was in departmental use, and even that is debatable......... however, I have managed to do some digging........ and I would wager, that the buffer beams & headstocks on the Lowmac, would be painted in the same colour as the main frames,,,, ie, grey.... reckon if you go down that route, you'll be pretty much bang on!!

    Some pics from yesterday........

41312 ran with a Lymington commemoration headboard today - commemorating 2nd April 1967 - last day of steam on the Lymingotn Branch (as no service on Wednesday this week coming)

A very lovely photo and very nice to remember that branch line.

A shame I was was a bit too tired after a busy day photting 34053 on the Spa Valley Railway yesterday to fight the road works and get down today. My last return on the Lymington Branch (aka the Long Footbridge) with the same class of loco as above was with 41320 on 27 November 1966. And my very last return was with 80011 on 28 December 1966. After that there was rather a lot of fast steam on the main line, especially between Basingstoke and Woking, to pause and enjoy that branch line again.

    Thanks again.

Coincidence. My last Lymington was also with 80011 but on 7/2/67.

Nice picture of Jubilee 633 at Medstead. LSWR headlamp sockets; 1 × LSWR disc under the chimney; 1 × SR (Brighton type) with an adapter on the smokebox RHS. Unusual, I have not seen that before.

I was watching with Mrs Hampshire unit and when that picture flashed up I said "thats a Jubilee" without a huge amount of conviction. Thanks for confirming!

You'll have the northern mob descend on you if you are not careful.

    But, for the likes of @Steve - that's a Jubilee ...

It is??? You stick with your shunter version and I’ll stick with the proper engine version. At least that can pull decent trains up decent hills at decent speeds.:)

You obviously mean the 4-cylindered Jubilee Class.

Lovely photo Tom. Whilst that photo was taken in 1888 it looks like they were trying out BR lined black for the four that were to make it into 1948. No doubt the other side of the cab had the trial number of 30539 - the Qs would have had a different number series. ;) Possibly set up for a Waterloo-Guildford service.

    Very nice, many thanks,

    Bryan.

Do we know where that was taken? I see a scotch block for a private siding in the foreground, and 4 quite nice windows in the building behind (along with a number of not-so-nice!).

I'm not sure of the location - the photo source was Wikipedia, original in a Swiss collection (of all places) but neither source gives a location.

The question everyone asking how many Longmont engines are there now for the Longmoor gala? Maybe quite a few but how many at the mid hants which once had some. I don’t think they have kept any. But There is now Basra diesel, how many tank engines painted blue? Tennis and Franklin’s now becoming blue. I can see this gala being discussed by the manager

I'm assuming you mean Longmoor military Railway , there is little point in holding a Longmoor railway gala, because there are currently few running in that livery, The time to have done it, would have been back when the railway had 601, 701 and 196, and then could have done something,
In the current financial situation, it would make no sense, to even plan anything galas now have to at least pay their way,
