I think its a small minority that from what I can see aren't actually involved in the railway. Olly and the team at Fox Edwards have been an important part of recent improvements on the Gwili and as the recent Gala showed arent afraid to try different and interesting things.

Picking up on a few replies since the announcement-

we are naturally delighted that matters have fallen into place and we now are the proud owners of a GWR engine. It’s been a long held ambition and we could not be happier. 213 locos left Barry and at long last one has returned to fly the flag in South Wales.

livery debate - we are going to let the dust settle first. No changes for 12 months at least!

Did she operate over the line in steam days - unlikely but happy to be proved wrong.

Fox and Edwards have been superb partners and any railway would be fortunate to work alongside them. I don’t understand some comments that I’ve seen, there is no basis in reality for them. Partnerships are very important and just in railway terms the relationships we have enjoyed with the SDR, Flour Mill and F & E have all assisted us to get to this point. Need I say any more.

times move on and there are many challenges ahead but this is a significant moment in the railway’s history.

    Regards

    Matt

This is another pinch yourself moment.

What an amazing bit of news! The railway has come so far since I volunteered these sorts of stories were unimaginable.

Growing up I always use to think what if, what if the railway hadn't sold dinmore manor, what if the pannier tank that was reserved for the railway at barry was proceeded with etc... now there is no looking back much of the potential has now been fulfilled!

How long is the boiler certificate?

    Well done all.

Congratulations this is really the best news. It would be great to see a gala with this and trecatty and ogwen back again and Swansea jack And roseinthe number 1. But at least you now have a great western. Very well done

I've certainly not seen anything negative on Fox and Edwards and without their sponsorship there would not have been a Manor back at the Gwili. Olly and co took a massive financial risk in the visit and also in partnering the event . They have also bought coaches and helped facilitate loco moves . The growing number of railways partnering with them says they are doing something right in terms of how they support the heritage movement , bring incremental business and build their own business .

Does the railway own the llanpumsaint station site, wikipedia seems to say so but other sources on the Internet say it is actually the council?

It is a long way off but it would be nice to know it's in safe hands.

    Cheers,
    Tom

the actual station side is owned by the Council and there is a presumption against development for “other uses” as things stand:

6430 is now in the final few weeks of the present ticket and will be in use on all operating days up to 5th May. The loco will return to Devon shortly after so this is your last chance to see her in Wales for a little while.

the much anticipated debut of L150 will be on the 5th May when she will run together with 6430, marking also the latter’s last day in traffic.

L150 is then planned to operate the remainder of May and into June until washout.

Haulwen is having snagging attended to and will be heading to the paint shop shortly and is expected to debut in mid June, date TBC.

as always all locos subject to availability.

    regards

    Matt

Is Haulwen’s livery public knowledge? Presumably pale Green given the undercoat?

Google maps have updated the satellite image of the abergwili site and I think its a particularly recent image.

The scale of the site is very apparent and what has been achieved. Well done all.

    Cheers,
    Tom
