    In that case, yes, a test train - and I ought to have remembered that my current avatar shows the exact same formation at Hafod Ruffydd the following day... ](*,) :)

    Well i'm feeling a trip across to Abergele And Pensarn for a beach shot, then go down to Llandudno Junction for a depature shot when she goes to turn etc... Haven't decided about the return trip, although having just checked the weather out, it doesn't look too promising for Saturday so may just give this one a miss 8-[
    Anyone else out for the trip?

    I'm hoping to be out but still plotting locations. Sir Nigel is in Chester during the afternoon too on a Cathedrals Express from Banbury so may lurk nearby.

    Oh i never even noticed this one, haha... If the weather forecast doesn't improve then i may just fenture down towards Chester, or i think i may go down near Llandudno for 5043 then come back up for 60007 on her departure from Chester... providing all the times fit.

    If only........but I think NR would take exception to us laying track from Llandudno Stn. to the beach so that we could take her for a paddle. \:D/ \:D/

    Good photo's from the early morning guys. Here is a still from my video taken at Hargrave, I thought I might just have got away with no rain but started to come on very heavy and blowing into the lens as she arrived. Video available at;

    Nice phots everybody, just got back home excellent day out despite the terrible weather.
    Judging by the angle of your shot Ben, I guess you were in that group at Hafod, I was one of the mad group in the open coach....I had hoped to get some good video but I'm not sure if I have, will have to wait till I can have a lok at it tomorrow. By the way can you find out why we had to leave one loco at Rhyd Ddu on the way back?
    Bill Andrew took over The Earl at Crewe and despite leaving late we arrived at the Junction almost back on time. On the return we left Llandudno a few minutes down but after a brisk run were quite a few minutes early back at Crewe.

    According to ben's latest update, it sounds like 143 bent something.

    Im hoping there's to be some footage of the garratts attacking the climb on youtube - not the greatest weather but two garratts and 13 coaches sounds like fun!

    That update was deliberately a bit vague, as all I know so far about why no. 143 was failed on the way back was "linkage", shouted by a friend from the train at Waunfawr - there are quite a few linkages on a Garratt! Bravo to Ralph and the others who rode in the open carriage on a pretty foul day, glad you had a good time. I think that's the longest passenger train yet run on the WHR, it looked very close to full, and it ran part of the way single-headed (perhaps a good job that part was downhill).

    There were 6 57 seater coaches that took us from Llandudno Junction to Dinas and we were not allowed to leave until every seat was taken so 300+ passengers seems a good estimate. Perhaps someone who knows the WHR sock weights could therefore come up with the load.

    Another photo from me, this time of the return trip. 5043 is seen making plenty of clag, courtesy of driver Bill Andrew, at Promised Land Lane, Waverton.
