It would indeed be a very expensive endeavour in the current financial situation considering most of the locos listed below are out of ticket and Errol Lonsdale now resides in Belgium.
Here is a list of former Longmoor motive power taken from Wikipedia:

    Preserved ex-LMR locomotives

Some of the Hunslet Austerity tanks were only ever at Longmoor for storage, and were not used operationally there.

    Preserved locomotives at Longmoor

With the withdrawal of locomotives from British Railways, a number were being bought by private individuals and groups who subsequently needed somewhere to store their purchases. In 1967 a group was formed called the 'Association of Railway Preservation Societies' (ARPS) and they were able to come to an agreement with the Army that allowed such locomotives to be stored at Longmoor for a nominal fee.[21] The following locomotives were all included in this agreement.

Number / Name Class Owner Notes
SR 21C123 Blackmoor Vale SR West Country Bulleid Pacific Preservation Society[22]

Had the MN's been transferred to the Midland region, instead of being withdrawn, who knows, they could have ended up Maroon, or if the changeover date slipped, rail Blue with the double arrow, now dons running shoes, and gear, overtakes Daddsie . whilst being pursued by a flock of very angry Owls.

Joking aside I’d love to see CanPac back in blue… unique in comparison to the other Bulleids even if not authentic. I thought it looked the bee’s knees.

Has an air-smoothed MN or WC ever been seen in anything other than shades of green?

Obviously no unrebuilt MNs preserved (yet!) but I would love 34007 to return in one of the Blue liveries. Not going to happen though.

I would like to see 34007 return in the Malachite green livery, either as 34007, with British Railways, or as Southern 21c07 then, if the ownership issues can ever be overcome with 34105, that can be early 50's BR livery Is the railway any closer yet to sorting out who actually does own the engine, and what their shareholding is?

Preserved? Not that I'm aware of, though I guess something might have tooled around in black for a while… in service black and blue both featured on pre-rebuilt locos.

During the brief period when BR experimented with liveries, was the blue option not tried on any MNs?

Ownership is a very complex issue. It would be difficult and expensive to resolve with clarity.

Clearly part of the very sad legacy of the MHR, and a lesson to the future, about ensuring everything is done in a clear manner, that ownership can't be hidden behind shady agreements, some people bought shares, in 34105, but no proof was ever given as to who owns what percentage, and the same names, seem to surface every time,

I think 35018 was in black when first restored and running in.
34027 was purple for a time and then went to black

Some of the early batches of MN's carried Wartime Black, then a number went into BR Express Passenger Blue, one (was it 35024?) was very briefly painted in an experimental, slightly different blue, with blue wheels and red stripes along the casing and tender.

I also thought 35005 looked good rebuilt in Express Blue and 34027 looked quite smart in Wartime Black, but I quite like a bit of variety some times, especially amongst classes with plenty of survivors.

I think we can all sleep safely tonight knowing 35005 will be left as at present.

But now I have the address, can I send a request please for 30506 to be repainted into 1960s BR state and number complete with grime? As per 30507 that I photographed at New Malden in the wonderful era for SR steam locomotives.

It will be a 'please and thank you letter' of course. :):)

Bryan - please and thank you - B
