Heavens no. No hats. Unless it has a railway badge on it and a grease proof top...matched by overalls, of course.

Amazing how a hat is seen as a badge of office, the past few years I've seen a few firemen with flatcaps on rather than a grease top wonder if this is an attempt to go for the Tommy Bray look? Anyhow why have we gone from Lanky and Yorky 1300 to footplate attire?:cool:

Yep, my apologies :Shamefullyembarrased: will get us back on topic. Hoping to see the Lanky this year when I come up to the ELR. First time I'll have seen it in nearly a decade and it will be nice to see it in its refreshed state.

I think we are all grateful for one of Britain's workhorses remaining in steam.

Brilliant to see 52322 back out after overhaul today on a private FXP on the ELR.

Excellent! So, when 957 has done its stint as the Green Dragon, perhaps the first in-steam gathering of all preserved Lanky 0-6-0s will happen, and in BR Black...

What a jolly good idea for a get together! L&Y livery would be very appropriate too... And all 3 ran in service for the L&Y!

It would be nice to add the Coal Tank to that list

Just curious, was the A-Class shipped to Haverthwaite purely for this charter or is it part of a longer-term hire?

I know the scenery round here is gorgeous, and the photos and videos I've seen are spectacular, but I just wondered what the appeal of this specific loco on this specific line on a short freight was - would it have worked this route historically?

    (Edit - just to clarify, this isn't a critical comment! I'm interested :) )

It is running service trains this weekend only, but essentially was shipped to Haverthwaite purely for the charter paid for by the participants and organiser.

Yes, it was an idea between myself and a member of staff at the railway, with a very accommodating loco owner and railway management. The loco was used for my two days of charters and will subsequently run this weekend. It will then move to the Mid-Hants Railway for their upcoming steam gala.

I don’t believe it worked the route (though I’m happy to be corrected); it was more a case of an opportunity arising to do something a little different. Turned out to be a fantastic two days, lots of laughs and some stunning weather.

I'm not aware of any working the route. Though they did get as far as Carnforth back in the day.

52322 has an interesting past having been allocated to Willesden for a period
