Today's NB now 33 minutes down having been stuck outside Mytholmroyd. Service train ahead sat there for half an hour with an issue.

34067 has set a number of fires along the Cumbrian Coast - including at Mirehouse, Coulderton, and Nethertown. Departed Sellafield an hour late after water stop.

Any steam loco could trigger this kind of event and it's not something you want to see. However, Tangmere seems out of luck generally at present.

Tbf Bullieds and their ashpan design have never been great. Those little side dampers are the worst for letting ash out.

West Cumbria has been very dry for the last month or so, with daytime temperatures above average and dry easterly winds. It was very dry several weeks ago, and there's only been a little rain since then.

There was a smallish lineside fire visible from the M6 two or three miles south of Penrith as I drove north just after the trains passed Shap.

Is that factually correct? Sorry to question it but that is not an incident; it's more a catalogue of events.

'What three words' springs to mind. In this case, given the weather conditions, perhaps 'Fitness to Run' might apply and that is not to imply that a FTR exam didn't take place but did a risk assessment?

What risk assessment therefore, do you think is at fault or missing?

Well, on RTT two trains trapped at St Bees and Sellafield for 2.5 to 3 hours and everything else on the coast line cancelled for the same period.

Just to show that not all lineside fires are caused by steam, there are serious delays between Retford and Doncaster due to Lineside fires.. Just Sayin.

I'm sure you can work that out for yourself as you know the route, the terrain, the train and the loco at least as well as I do, so can I leave you to think about it?

And are the details of the Network Rail Control log supposed to be confidential and not shared on social media? Whoever is sending you these details Harry will probably not appreciate you blabbermouthing them across the internet. Sometimes a bit of discretion is called for in situations like this.

Well in that case Peter I’ve deleted my comments and I’m sure we can all enjoy another week of not worrying about facts on here. I mean who needs fact for good discussion!

Filmed around Blue Peter's solo trip up to Carlisle, the NB is seen at Lancaster under diesel power, before passing Penrith with Tangmere at the head barely minutes after Blue Peter had passed, and heading away from Carlisle at Lowry St, before the drama happened:

Harry, the facts were there for all to see and can be discussed at will any time. I was suggesting that it is unnecessary to be quoteing the source of your information when that source is supposed to be confidential. Sometimes it is wise to use a bit of discretion on the internet. That way you do not risk inadvertantly getting someone into trouble.
