Surprised nothing running on SVR during this week, just up in the area for a few days and going back on friday. I know the local schools not yet on holiday but a lot of areas are and there seems to be a lot of visitors to the area around. Other attractions seem pretty busy too.

We have a fair bit of other work going on this week including a private driving school today, some Manor testing, engineering works, etc so sadly most of the line unavailable.

We’ve a fairly staff intensive couple of weeks coming up too with the gala.

Especially like the last picture of the two Manors. For anyone who didn't know, 7802 is using 2857's tender. Which left me wondering, is this the first time in preservation that 7802 and 7812 have appeared together both using 3,500 gallon tenders?

Yes! Completion of EMFs own second 3500g tender at Tyseley is going up a gear now that 7802 is back on the SVR. Much of the work so far has been done by volunteers and the intention is to complete this project this year. Meanwhile we have hired the tender which belongs to the 2857 Society abd thank them for the opportunity to do this.

(The new tender T2329 will be used behind either 7802 or 7812 to suit operational requirements as T2334 has been previously)

Why did 7802 have a 4000 gallon tender for a period - was it just that was the only tender available when it was first rescued from Barry / restored to traffic?

The 4000 gallon one certainly proved useful for its mainline career after it was first restored, but I believe it was all that was available at the time. It has been a long term aim of the group to have both manors running with the smaller tenders.

A short history best read with a cup of coffee! 7802 was initially purchased (with considerable loans) simply to save it from being scrapped at a time when there was uncertainty re the continued existence of the locos in the yard as several were cut up around then. At that stage there was no serious thought of restoration and certainly no funding for that or purchasing a tender. The tender 7802 arrived at Woodhams had already been sold to the GWS with 5322 by then. Later when the purchase loans had been repaid, money from overseas offered and sentiment on the SVR (and Michael Draper in particular) had changed restoration of 7802 commenced. Around then BR were disposing of remaining GWR tenders and several passed through EMF hands. All by then were of the Collet 4000g variety. One in particular (ex Swindon Works) was in good condition having been used to store waste oil. That one was acquired, put into running order and used until recently with 7802. To have both 7802 & 7812 paired with the most appropriate tenders has been a long term aim and the tender currently with 7812 (T2334) was built in the 1990s using parts from a donor chassis ex Swindon Works. The current project for a second 3500g tender has been long running. T2329 was acquired from Llangollen a long time ago and has been the donor for some parts though all sheet, plate, steel angle and beading is new. Searches approaching archaeology in thoroughness have yielded other origonal parts for this tender. Now that both 7802 & 7812 are running the completion of the (re)build of T2329 is the funds main priority until complete. That is scheduled for the end of this year. As ever more help, both practical & financial, would be appreciated - details here Welcome to the Erlestoke Manor Fund - Erlestoke Manor Fund

This is very good news here. Without delving too deep into sensitivities, can anyone speak to how the railway managed to get the insurance to pay out in full? The usual narrative is that they will try wriggle out of paying via technicalities and clauses.

If the insurers have agreed to pay, does that mean that they have agreed the amount, and does that mean that a reliable quotation for the work has been obtained?

    https://svr.co.uk/news/svr-to-move-ahead-with-landslip-repairs/

Link to full press release here, final amount still to be finalised, but insurers have agreed to cover bulk of repairs to bridge and reinstatement of embankment, worth well over £1/2 million.
CML have been appointed on a 'Design and Build' basis, further track needs lifting for them to finalise design, but work should start in 6 to 8 weeks.

last nights board meeting it was recognised the incredible contribution of one of our board members to resolving this along with many others on the railway . The amount of hours and discussions that have taken place is something else, and the detail that has been needed to go through to get the railway to the detail shared in the announcement is immense .
