This's been mentioned many times in this thread and may well be true but no-one's ever confirmed for sure what this bit of the constipation actually says. Are there any members of PELS reading this thread? If so, can you confirm whether it's true - or just another miff.

The constipation? Do the members have difficulty passing over the issue of livery to discuss other things?

Prunes might help, plus they just happen to be the right shade of red, :D

I do find it funny how some people get so picky about liveries
I know from a member of the owning group that when the prospect of painting 2807 at the GWSR black for 2 years so it could be in black for the South Devon's Polar Expresses was raised, there were some people threatening to cancel their membership because they were so insistent that it had to be green. It was only after the leadership provided the membership with the figures of the hire fees they stood to earn by being available for this role for 2 winters (which would only be available if the loco was painted black) that people put down their pickaxes...
Thinking about 6201, fair enough, she does look gorgeous in LMS Red, and given the number of locos that are always in BR colours it's nice to see something different. But then it's not like her employment with BR (and the liveries she wore during that employment) weren't part of her history that are worth exhibiting

LMS straw lined black was carried by 6201 as was BR Black from mem
it is absolutely true albeit the wording is also around the livery carried at the time of the record run from memory

to be fair in a sea of BR liveries a LMS Maroon pacific would be different and I'd love to see her back on the main line . Livery becomes a secondary thing

At the same time, there was a great deal of discussion over who actually runs the Society, who actually makes the decisions, and much of the comment was that it was the chair, and secretary, and that the members had little, to no say, and it was this position that the sticking to LMS red originated from, the Chairman decided, the engine stays in LMS red, Now, I don't know, if this is still the case, if the members now have a greater say, but this was widely reported at the time, Allegedly so,

6201 looks fantastic in maroon and that is the look in which it became famous. To paint it any other colour would be scarilage in my book!

Fortunately it has a sister in Derbyshire who's owners would probably let you paint it whatever colour you liked in return for a substantial donation to the overhaul fund.

There is a timeline of livery etc on here https://6201.co.uk/index.php/timeline-3/ would also be nice to see if something could be done to replicate the record run at some stage, obviously not going to be non stop and would a WCML Euston to Glasgow run even be feasible in modern times considering how many water stops and pathing stops would be needed.

A nice idea and I'd certainly love to see it. As you say, certainly not non-stop and possibly over a few days there and back?

BR black was the livery of 46201 in my first train set, made by Rovex before the takeover by Triangle. The two coaches were in brown for some reason made from the sort of plastic that went out of shape after a few years.
Liveries dint really matter providing they are authentic. 1946LMS black would be nice as I don’t think there any locos in that style at present.

    Seems like an easy way to earn some cash;

    - Turn it out in black undercoat and lined out, as 60007 was for running in with transfers- sell some charters.

    - Ask photographers if they wish to see it green for a limited time to fund the paint and painting.

    - After limited period paint it back into "core" LMS red livery.

Generates some goodwill and some interest from the enthusiast community, raises some cash.

I suspect it would see high demand for the limited periods in different liveries.

The money spent on paint could be put to better use, put it in the kitty for when overhaul is due. The paint is cosmetic, the oily metal bits are a necessity.

The owning group may have some sins to their name, but how does wanting LMS livery for an LMS loco which you own count as "arrogance"? It is commonly said on here that loco owners have the right to choose whatever livery they fancy, though they may sometimes have to bow to external pressure, as with Tornado and Carnforth.
Anyway it seems to me very likely that a decision to allow a different livery could have lost more support from those who prefer the LMS livery than it would have gained from those who might prefer something different.

But the "extra" money is only available if the loco is painted into a different livery!
