On second thoughts this is better discussed "off line" between the folks involved.

    Cheers, Neil

Looks like tomorrow’s “steam special” is now diesel hauled throughout :(:(

Looking like ten days of light rain/showers in the North West in the next two weeks after Sunday so maybe that should be enough to shift the dial.

One hopes that this will be the case. Then it's just a matter of every operator and owner thinking long and hard about which of their locomotives are best able to contain cinders, sparks and the like. Even in the most benign of circumstances vigilance is the key, even though guarantees are nigh on impossible.

I see that West Coast chose not to respond to the BBC's request for a comment. Given what they are doing that is positive on the Jacobite it would have been a good opportunity to try and rebalance the debate.

I'm not surprised they would still be concerned about steam, we've had a bit of rain in Cumbria but not as much as the forecast had been suggesting.

...and NR know that the fire raiser would have been booked for the train so maybe they are just being cautious as I'm sure will West Coast.

Please be advised that a 530-tonne abnormal load operation is taking place on Saturday 26 April 2025, between Heysham docks and Coalburn in Scotland via M6 northbound from J34. No specific timings have been given, apart from it is commencing in the morning. Recent movements of this nature have caused long tailbacks on the northbound motorway throughout the day.

Also please be advised that if you are in the Ribblehead and Horton-in-Ribblesdale it is the annual 3 Peaks Fell Race. There is also the The Fellsman Dart Event commencing at Newby Head Pass early in the afternoon. There will be road marshals in various locations stopping traffic at times.
