Thumper unit 1118 has arrived at Okehampton after work at the West Somerset Rly; hoping to be used on 13th June for runs to Bow as well as Meldon. All being well, this should be the start of the regular operation to Bow (not available as a joining station though). Check their website for any updates, before making a special trip!

It looks like 5-6 trains on a Saturday now. Things are obviously beginning to look up again for Dartmoor. Can anyone explain what the overall status of the Railway now is ?

Class 205 1118 has left the railway. There motive power now has to be leased out which they are doing for the polar express. Not sure what else can be said about the future of the railway. http://www.dartmoor-railway-sa.org/news

    Hello,
Any idea where it will be based?

I have been following this set after photographing it on the P&B Ry.

It's going to the West Somerset and not coming back. Other than that I don't know where it will be permanently based.

It's at West Somerset Restorations at Williton for a repaint following the scratching caused by branches during its delivery to Okehampton in June.

welcome abourd the triangle special , It will keep you going round in endless circles, but always ending up where you started from, just totally confused, like the majority of the WSRA armchair members ;) as they try to tell what is truth and spin, once the trustees reply to the review comes out

One thing I have noticed traveling on the Dartmoor Sunday Rover nearly every year since it opened, is that there is more than a small number of overhanging branches from the trees bordering the Okehampton route. On several occasions I have been covered in leaves as they come in via the open windows.

I have never had the same experience on Network Rail traveling from Taunton to Exeter or Exeter to Barnstaple.

According to the Dartmoor Railway supporters association website the scratch damage to 1118 occurred on Network Rail property, but it seems strange that following repairs to the damaged paintwork it will not return to the Dartmoor line. Perhaps BARS/RMS locotec could not give a cast iron guarantee about vegetation flailing that would help such damage not to occur again in the future.

It seems Dartmoor Railway have begun to form another 4-CEP unit with DMBS 61743 and TS 70273 in formation. All you need now is DMBS 61742 and that's a 3-CEP. (should be second article on the second of August http://www.dartmoor-railway-sa.org/news)

Dartmoor Railway Association news page says Meldon Quarry, following several years of disuse, is being reactivated by a new owner who “is in the process, with Network Rail, of reopening the line from Okehampton to Meldon.

DRA has been given access to work on our stock. Once it is clear how the railway operations will take place within the site then DRA will be in further discussions.”
