The diesel has to be there to power the aircon and CDL. I'm sure it didn't give any assistance.

Not a very bright morning yesterday but here are my pics from day one of the GB. Locations are Milford X2, Buriton, crossing the Hamble at Busledon (I knew it would be coasting there but would have made a nice picture with a bit of brightness) and finally approaching Dunbridge, not the shot I wanted but Southampton traffic put me less than half a minute ahead of the train here! The last one is a phone pic at Salisbury

Thanks Bryan, it was a dull day apart from a little brightness at Buriton. As Sod’s Law always does we were in sunshine the whole afternoon at Salisbury.

Plenty of nominees for the Darwin Awards were present at Burry Port Station. That was not a freindly Stanier hooter on display !

John you must have been near me at Bursledon. Did you get there very long before the train did? I was speaking to a couple of people while waiting. One said he was an ex-railwayman and that this was the first time a Merchant Navy had been on that line, in preservation at least.

45212 skirts the South Wales Coast this evening. Been a nice day chasing the 5 around Wales, with it doing the majority of the work.

Today was also a good day on the train. Everyone worked hard to keep the day on time with a schedule that left very little leeway. It was pretty remarkable that all three destinations were visited in one day. All credit to the planners.

Less credit to signallers who made quite a mess of things around Swansea on the return.

Yes, sadly there is a Class 57 sitting at the front of GBXVII at Cardiff Central now. Up to Carnforth via Gloucester, the Lickey, Walsall and Crewe. Just the one leg stretch at Crewe.

Wasn’t it this loco that failed at Rugby with a hot box on a positioning move a couple of weeks back too?
Edit - was on 9th March.
