The last trains: Alresford Station on 27th April 2025 nearing the end of the very successful Watercress Line Spring Steam Gala. The crew of visiting Tank 11456 chat with the station staff while they await the arrival of Ivatt Tank 41312 on the last train to Alresford.
41312 rolls into view round the bend. 11456 then hauled the final service from Alresford, a mixed set shuttle to Ropley.

Waiting for the clock to tick round to 10:00 today, (on my way back from a haircut).

 

Gala weekend - loco's fail, stock has to be sidelined, timetable changes inevitable. 11456 shouldn't have been on this train at Bishops Lydeard so short of water and coal, so needs must if the trains are to be kept running. What it is all about - people!

 

Why do some signalmen take so long to release the token, anyone would think they own it?!

 

Signalmen, isolated and remote from most human contact, like to tell themselves that they control the movement of trains.

Guards, smug and pompous in their shiny uniforms, like to tell everyone else that they control the movement of trains.

But drivers don't have to pretend, because they know that only they have the big red go stick in their hands ...

Real guards don't wear shiny uniforms but a dust coat, carry a shunting pole and ride at the back, well away from megalomaniac drivers!

 

There were a number of Poles visiting the Swanage Diesel Gala.
I have never used one of these things, so maybe they are fine, but to me they show a lack of imagination of what may happen to your expensive camera.
I will admit the one on the left with the tripod base looks by far the safest.
It was quite windy and they were all drifting around in the breeze somewhat.

 

They better be careful if they use those around the 25kv!

 

Admiration for the 4-VEP knows no national borders …
