Excellent news. Only got to see her the once last year at Farnborough. Just as she started her take off run the sun went in. :smt009
Hopefully I'll get some nice sunny pics this year.

Ahh the days when airshows involved a certain amount of physical pain (from the noise!) - Lightnings were awesome for this, I seem to remember that Sea Vixens and Spey-powered Phantoms also gave quite a good kick!

The sight of a Lightning taking off then just going straight up until out of view, one to be savoured......

I was lucky enough to work at Porton Down for a summer job in the late 80's when the Empire Test Pilot School still used a Lightning for training. I was working on the A/C system on the new block and everyone up on the roof always stopped to watch it. As Ralf said, vertically upwards at full chat and accelerating was really impressive, and the noise \:D/ \:D/

Just to let you all know that there Vulcan left Bruntingthorpe today and is now based at RAF Brize Norton, possibly for the season and beyond. Should be displaying at Cosford tomorrow (paperwork and serviceability permitting).

    Regards,

    Dan

I believe XH558 diverted to Lyneham after the display at Cosford, was that weather related?

Don't know why she went to Lyneham but she has now gone to Volkel in Holland for a couple of days.

    Cheers

Went to one of the "last Lightning shows" at RAF Binbrook. 11 Lightnings took off in a stream. On take off they turned hard back over the runway and then went vertical as the next one roared down the runway beneath it. When all were airborne we got a diamond 9 formation followed by two singletons at just a fraction below Mach 1. The atmosphere was very damp so the shockwaves were awesome.
For sheer noise it was Ramstein USAFE for me. 10 F-4 Phantoms took off in two groups of 5. Crowd line was much closer than in the UK and the sound was almost unbearable. Trying to take photographs and put your fingers in your ears was fun. :)

Of course in the good old days the displays were above the crowd, towards the crowd and sometimes below the crowd.

Yes it was a bit different in days of yore. No fencing at the crowd line for one.

A Tristar was blocking the runway with a faulty nosewheel steering mechanism, so it was easier to put it into Lyneham. The aircraft will be displaying at Volkel on Friday and Saturday, before coming back to the UK and displaying at Kemble (usual disclaimers on serviceability etc.)

    Dan
