Paddington before and at journeys end.
In the morning we left the guard behind which was discovered at the (thus very extended) Gerrards Cross pick up.
In the evening the loco had lost its argument with the bridge at Ladbrook Grove, and after lengthy delay a 47847 took us into the station. A rather poor quality image I am afraid.

I remember that trip. My dad and I were getting ready to alight when a huge cloud of very wet steam went down the side of the coach. My mum wasn't happy - it was a school night and I have a feeling we didn't get home until gone 11pm!

    Thanks for that.
Yes, I was a steward on it. When 6024 clobbered the bridge someone in nearby flats dialled 999 and said a bomb had gone off!
Within a couple of minutes we were surrounded by police, fire brigade and ambulance teams! The loco crew threw the fire out
and the fire brigade provided water to prevent a boiler explosion. The 47 dragged us into Paddington 2 hours late!

I seem to remember the guard issue was resolved by "stealing" a guard from an up service who then had to walk some way back up the track to the stock. Far easier to do in those days before the railway became broken up into to many different organisations.
I also seem to remember that somehow my coach although I only booked standard (was it second back then?) was an FO and the table for two opposite me was empty all day and I moved and sat there on my own all day. So some things worked well.
