Only 44806 was available yesterday, not sure what has happened to 926, 5428, 63395.

    From what I've read elsewhere,

5428 failed on shed Sunday morning - blowdown valve failed
63395 was making unhealthy groaning noises on a trip from Pickering to Grosmont on Sunday. Went to shed for investigation/work whilst an extra diesel was put out to cover.
Not seen anything about Repton though.

Only 44806 on todays Roster as well.

Flying Scotsman is set to visit the NYMR between 25 October and 12 November as part of the Railway 200 celebrations (excluding Thursday/Friday of each week).

there are ways of interpreting a natural corridor , which can extend from habitat management and a lot of intervention , to do nothing and dress it up as a natural corridor . its not all railways but there is a sense for many and the national network its the latter (until an incident occurs)

Bearing in mind this is alongside the regular timetable, and no mention of teaks, is there a spare 7-coach rake in the sheds at the minute? Or is there another plan?

Have they repaired all the coaches from the rough shunt?

The peak season is now upon us. I would expect that by now, even without any teak carriages (and surely they can't all be sidelined!), they should by now be able to marshall three 6- or 7-coach sets of Mk 1s, not including the dining stock.

I doubt it. I was told in January that they hoped to get two more Mark 1s repaired for the start of the season and these seem to have been done. Currently there are two Whitby sets of seven and the short rake of 5. I am told that each coach involved in the rough shunt needed/needs to have new buckeyes that's £1000 each, multiply it by 11 coaches in the rough shunt and you get £22,000 for buckeyes alone. The concrete floor in one of the brake coaches heaved up and split. There were broken windows and body damage. The main shortage is for brake coaches.

Regarding the comment about Mondays operations. I was travelling on the railway on Monday and yes only 44806 was in steam with 31148 on the Whitby trains as I don't think the other working diesels are Whitby passed so getting Repton and 45428 back in use is very important. I was also told that 45428 had a blowdown valve issue and 63395 lubrication problems. Repton had 20 leaking tubes that were being attended to. I don't know what is the current position with 80136 or No.29 which was steam tested along with 63395 last week. 44806 was being equipped with the electronic signalling system to enable use on the Whitby runs last year but there were procurement problems with some of the components required. I assume that is still the case.

Repton and 63395 were both out today. I think 63395 finished at Pickering while 44806 took the first ex-Pickering to Grosmont and then stayed there.

Regarding 44806 I thought I read in Moors line it had been fitted with all the relevant Whitby kit now, but it still hasn't gone that way. So not sure if it hasn't been finished or just isn't signed off for use yet maybe?

80136 had a steam test down the line a few weeks back but I don't believe its been seen out since. And not heard anything on the 9F either.

Going back to the carriages, I suspect if the Teaks are still unavailable then some may have to be hired in unless anyone else knows better. But I didn't think the issues with them were insurmountable, just out of budget at the time. The LNERCA certainly seemed very willing to help earlier in the year, despite it very clearly being the NYMR's part of the bargain.

If they could afford to hire in coaches then they could afford to do the outstanding repair work on the teaks.

Mk.1 BSK 35089 left the NYMR a couple of weeks back, gone to Bo'ness or Strathspey (reports differ). Presumably that's for contract repairs then given the above?

Tomorrows plan is that 37264 will be replaced by steam when when it gets to Grosmont from Pickering and, apart from 31128 doing two trips between Grosmont & Whitby, the rest of the T/T will be steam using 926, 5428 & 63395. That should make Friday all steam apart from those two trips to Whitby with 31128.

I do hope so Steve. I haven't had a steam turn since I was on Bahamas in early April, so hopefully the late Pickering turn tomorrow will produce something, preferably 63395 - remember the last time we were on it?;)
