Isnt a mainline connection to the network the thick end of £1m?

I’ve been off in the wilds for a few day and am just catching up with posts and PMs on here.

I’m hearing that there’s been a major falling out between Messrs Davies & Smith, and the latter has threatened to pull out of operating Tornado.

On her recent move south to the NVR, the Trust’s support coach was left north of the border with wheel flats and WCRC leant the Trust a replacement for the trip.

I now hear that a WCRC diesel has been sent to bring said coach back to Carnforth.

    Corroborated here …..
    I’ll update if/when I have more news ……

Tornado’s support coach was taken on Tuesday night to Bo’ness where it is being repaired. Tornado was having a boiler washout at Orton Mere and was meant to be hauling the Royal Duchy but now that is 45212. Tornado is still rostered for the Waverley on the 3rd of August.

Tornado's support coach is at Bo'ness (or at least it was yesterday). Are you sure that it is going to be repaired there?

If WCRC intend to roster Tornado, why take away the support coach?

Maybe needed for locos going to the Great Gathering? If there has been a falling out like you say, it might be over responsibility for the rectification costs of removing the wheel flats from Tornado's support coach which has obviously occurred during WCRC operations.

I hear that the flats are the source of the issue. Whether it’s cost, or the Trust giving the recovery job to DRS I don’t know.

What ever the cause, the flats needed to be sorted , and IMHO, this does both parties no good,

Not really sure West Coast are in a position (motive power wise) to be arguing with the A1st.

But equally the A1 trust are not in a strong position either, I would say both are not in a strong position West Coast are short of air braked steam , and the A1trust don't exactly have operators falling over themselves to hire it, since they signed up with West Coast.

But who needs the other more? WCRC obviously don't care about loco owners or tour operators, they're quite happy to stick with air brake stock despite not enough locos being available, leading to cancelled tours.

If 60163 isn't operated by WCRC, what are the other choices for the loco? Vintage are self sufficient with only the occasional hire in of 45596. LSL don't do need any more locos. DB don't really operate steam outside of Belmond Pullman and moving 60103 around the country. That'll mean the loco is stuck on preserved lines, and who's going to pay the hire fee for the loco for any length of time?

Hopefully some common sense will prevail, otherwise everyone will lose out.

I'd like to think so, but I also have similar thoughts with regard to rolling out CDL fitted Mk1s and everyone losing out appears to be the preferred option there!

Time to sit back and watch the fire grow so to speak as Smithy continues his mainline steam schedule with at best 1 working kettle, which isn’t his

So... who's going to retrieve Tornado from the NVR, or has the NVR just gained a Pacific to replace the much-missed 92 Squadron? :D
