Yes, it's off my list for this reason. I'm not fussy about most heritage railway aspects (traction, location, length, scenery etc.) but I do have one red line and that is I must be able to turn up on the day, buy a rover ticket, and travel on any service** unless *I* decide it's too crowded, but be allowed to board (and stand if necessary) if I want to.

** Apart from something like a dining special or similar, of course.

They may be doing OK financially, but they might do even better if they were less prescriptive.

Much my own experience. I went there last summer to be told the train was full. I watched it depart, it wasn't full ( I've sent off many trains and I know what "full" looks like.). So two return fares lost. Went to Bolton Abbey instead.

I can remember visiting the embsay steam railway in about 2013 and 2014 and they just used to sell me a return ticket and tell me I were allowed to travel on the trains all day with it at the value of £10 back then I sometimes used to donate towards hunslet loco Wheldale (now restoration nearly complete) or the skipton extension to reconnect embsay jct to the Grassington line.
I think nowadays since the covid 19 pandemic they changed policy did the Y.D.R. only allow one round trip for £15 either starting at Bolton Abbey or Embsay, you can do 3 round trips but it would cost £45 for x3 return tickets usually best to start at embsay to get the full line mileage.

I think they should revert to a conventional fare and timetable structure.
When we were there a year ago we wanted to travel on both of the sets operating that day but couldn't understand what tickets to buy from the published information. Not all the trains that were running appeared on the operating list and the assumption seemed to be that you'd come straight back on the same set leave little time to look atound. The ticket staff at Embsay were helpful and said we could wait for the second but to tell the staff on the train.
It was OK in the end but very off- putting.

Just had another look of the web site and Day Rover ticket now available for £19 for adults, valid on all trains all day. Will pencil in a visit to see the P3 this summer!

Edit - the website is not very friendly at all, would be much easier if there was an actual timetable too!
Only giving the Rover option on Diesel and Ale days, so confusing and back to square one I feel!

Thanks, yes it looks just the same as I recall from last year on ordinary days.
The date I have in mind is Tuesday 8th July and no Rover option is show. And no "proper"timetable, and an implied assumption that you'll travel back on the same train you started on. They are also showing "only 4 left" on some bookings which seems improbable from how it's been on our two previous midweek trips. It just doesn' look designed to attract passengers!

For contemporary users this system seems to be working for them, it seems the recent use of more interesting motive power is attracting the 'undesireables' that frequent forums such as this ;)

Does anybody have any information regarding upcoming running days for 2392? Will there be any opportunities to see her running with the vintage carriages?

As a member of the railway, I've raised whether we can publicise these as you're not the only one asking.

Has there been any progress on this, please? I'm very keen to visit the railway to ride behind 2392 but it's a long journey for me so any advanced notice of running dates would be much appreciated.

I've actually spoken directly to one of the Directors this morning; he's aware that there are people who are interested in coming to see 2392 specifically so he's going to see what they can do.

Excellent, I see that day rovers are available on Saturday for the diesel and ale day, are these valid on the steam services as well or would I need a separate return ticket?

In case anyone was planning to come to see 2392 today, I've just got to Bolton abbey to find Douglas on the train. The crew said 2392 wouldn't be repaired for today but tomorrow is a possibility.

That's a shame--let's hope it's nothing too serious. Sadly I couldn't make it this weekend anyway, I was already booked to go to Derby for the Greateat Gathering tomorrow.

It's not awful, just unfortunate. It's not as if he lost a leg, or found himself down south, or something....
