The owner of 1682 is indeed involved with a heritage railway, but no final decision been taken on where this particular loco will end up. There is quite a lot more important stuff to do to it than worry about where it's to be based for operations. As for when it might steam - I think the only available statement will be along the lines of "it will be done when it's done".

Out of interest, does anyone have any photos of her working? I've only seen two photos, both outside the shed at BSC Newark. She seems to have been one of the more elusive locos, at work as well as in preservation!

Family holidays coincided with Newstead's first passenger service today, which was a happy coincidence!

She is seen here at Holt running around looked on by a Grandad passing down the trainspotters mentality to his youngest grandson!

Another Austerity in the form of the former 'Sapper' has been returned to service in BR livery. I'll never understand the obsession... Or why nobody at least puts one in LNER black rather than BR if it must represent a mainline example!

I think it's simply a case that if you've bought it, and paid all that money to overhaul it, you can paint it any colour or livery that you damn well like! While it will offend those who spend their time counting rivets, I suspect there is an equal number of people who won't care about it, as long as they get to travel behind steam. Having been on a station platform more than once in my time, the amount of times you hear "Look, there's Thomas", when the loco stood at the platform is anything from an 0-4-0 to a 9F, is pretty darn high. Personally, I think it a positive that Road and Rail Services look after their engines as well as they do, and that they always look so smart, even if the livery isn't "correct."

That’s a fair point, and entirely valid. I just don’t understand the obsession the movement has with BR Black on almost every class of loco - except that presumably it’s the cheapest to apply.
Re the general public, I know exactly what you mean - I was at a local miniature railway a couple of years ago and they had an O gauge railway running a GWR Prairie tank. A lady next to me said “That looks like Flying Scotsman. Is it flying Scotsman?”
All I could say was “It’s the same colour as Flying Scotsman!”

"68009" has run in preservation as LNER "8009" - neither being its true identity, of course.

I would suggest the FS reference has nothing to do with colour. In the past 12 months I have twice been asked at Wareham, whilst waiting to photograph a tour, one which was not even steam, if I was waiting for Flying Scotsman, even though it was not down this way and hence there was nothing in the local press. I find it very hard to avoid saying why on earth would I be in response.
To many it is the only loco of any sort.
