It actually failed on the move from Carnforth to Fort William, only reached Harrison sidings at Shap and was then towed back to Carnforth

The punctuality of RTC and Pathfinder seems to have dropped quite a bit in recent times not to mentioned various tours being postponed or even cancelled.

I don't think so. Braunton hauled 12 coaches from Bristol TM yesterday, straight into the climb of Horfield bank on a damp rail. The class 47 diesel at the rear was certainly not pushing very hard. Later in the afternoon we had a lot of heavy rain in the area. <BJ>

postponed or cancelled is not about punctuality . it reflects a market that is challenging with less spending for many, an increasingly expensive product, probably over saturated with tours at the current price point, and the impacts of choices made around stock and braking which limits locomotives available in one case .

you misread the post . Fire risk could cause a diesel substitution and we have seen some this summer . it was just an example rather than a statement of fact in relation to the Duchy .

As you are new to posting on NP, it's worth saying that much of what you are choosing to comment on now has been discussed in the appropriate thread quite a way back through 2025 and folk have moved on. So a bit of detailed 'back reading' might be helpful to get a sense of what the general view is over things like rolling stock and loco availability plus charter pricing and the like.

I have been a casual ‘non posting’ reader for many years but I shall take a read back through.

With no apparent water stops and a 75 mph path back late afternoon from Southall to Swanage I assume it will be headed by the 33, rather than the Hellifield Circuit norm of the steam hauling the diesel?

I think Wednesday is no more than a transfer move. The test run itself will be from Southall in a few days time AFAIK.

D6515 tows 34028 to Southall and then comes back light engine to Swanage.
If all remains well, WCRC will arrange for 34028's loaded test train. Rumours are circulating already that it will be a night time trip from Southall to Didcot and back.
We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.
Owners SLL are hoping that Eddystone might haul the Swanage Belle on Wednesday 10th September.
