Considering how moribund the original scheme had become, it gives me a lot of pleasure to see how this is all going under the new leadership it has. I was greatly pleased to see a OO-scale model of 10000 (which had been converted to 3-rail operation) running on Tuesday at my local HRCA meeting which belonged to a recently-departed member and was being run in his memory.

In keeping with diesel re-creations, I've also signed up to the "Baby Deltic" lottery today :)

(As an aside, I rather liked this post by the BDP: Keep checking back here for updates, we will continue to use Facebook to spread the word but as it becomes ever more AI driven and ever more full of drivel our website will remain the only place where you can see full (and accurate) updates on the project.)

We are happy to announce the recent purchase of two English Electric 16SV power units! These were offered by a contractor who was dismantling a military base in Lincolnshire. One, we were able to witness running very nicely. It has run 1500 hours. The other, which has not been commissioned from rebuild has a total of 74 hours. This was bought for a nominal sum. These units give us the long-wished-for goal of having a reserve historical unit and many spare parts and both units are now in dry storage. There is another 16SV in a separate military base, which we continue to pursue.

We were able to afford this purchase thanks to the regular donations you make to our charity. Thank you very much for your generosity. We need further funding for future development, such as design acceptance and bodywork. Once we have our final designs approved and costed, we will begin fundraising in earnest toward the ultimate goal. Meanwhile, as a group, we can give ourselves a big pat on the back and a hearty "thank you" for all the work and support given to LMS10000. We are beginning the construction phase. Now is the time to get onboard, get involved and donate to see it built faster!: https://lms10000.com/membership

I thought that traction motors always had straight-cut gears. (But then our boiler shop has some old Underground bogies with driven pinions on the axles, and they are helical.)

You see both on trams. Most impressive is the very early 3ft gauge truck in the exhibition hall, with herringbone gears. Helicals are usually quieter and smoother, but introduce axial loads. Some motorcycle racers replace helical primary drives with straight cuts to stop the crank trying to wind itself out the engine sideways.

Which is where the Citroën logo came from as they manufactured them :)
