This is an old news page, it visited their steam gala last year.

To speculate. Do we think 34028 will also pull Saturday's railtour to the West Somerset?

I personally doubtful, I assume since it's a new mainline loco they'll want to pace it and not put it out again straight away, may be wrong.

    30064...........

If I've read everything correctly the support crew will be supplied by the Swanage Railway. As they are rather busy with their gala and SLL are also preoccupied with 34053 being un-renamed at Eridge on Saturday I'd be surprised but who knows at this point!

Yes, Swanage Railway qualified staff are providing support crew for 34028.
If reports on another thread are correct: https://www.national-preservation.com/threads/rtc-2025.1424216/page-30#post-2948845 then they'll be somewhat busy trying to sort out the current problem(s) which seems to have been discovered during the Basingstoke water stop.
Looking at RealTime Trains it appears to have been there for over an hour and Basingstoke Control Centre is having to route all Up trains through Platform 3.
All in all, currently not looking too good.

Apparently knocking of motion heard whilst '28 coasting into Basingstoke water stop. Hence serious investigations, whilst taking on water, which led to the tour being cancelled.
Whole train towed back slowly into Up Reception Siding (URS) by 47812 [coupled on the rear for ETS (air con., etc.)].
Depending what the problem is/problems are then as long as the bearing surfaces have not been damaged [overheating, etc] then it might be possible to steam or tow '28 to Southall where they have some facilities.
If these surfaces have been damaged, however, then road movement will likely be used to remove the engine from Basingstoke.
In the meantime, the 10 carriage train and 47812 are (effectively) 'trapped' in the URS. This stock might also have been rostered by WCRC for RTC's rail tour currently planned for Saturday (13th) to the West Somerset. But, without a working steam loco at Southall, it looks like it's either going to be diesel hauled or Caped.
Not the sort of entry into revenue-earning service for all the hard work that's been put in by Southern Locomotives Ltd and Swanage Railway teams over the past few months.

If the bearing is damaged, rather than road it back to Herston, Could SLL make use of the MHR's wheel drop, and drop the axle, remetal the bearing, and at least the line does have testing facilities, to shake down any problems?

Pathfinder have announced that 34028 will be on the steam section of their "The Exe-Parrett" tour on 8th November.

Whilst we don't know what has caused the failure , a knock suggests motion and may not need to drop wheelsets

PNP deals directly with Riley for Wensleydale duties, this pre-dates the work we do with WCRC now.

Thank you. So I assume then 45407 will be spending the winter at Wensleydale.

Then I would imagine then 34067 is taking on all the work in the North over Christmas, unless the motive power issues changes.

Has there been any further news about the nature of the failure, And this is more of a general question, what can be tackled at Southall as regards to running repairs, for example, can they remetal and machine bearings, carry out stay replacement etc, or is it just a stabling base?

Can you post a link to where Pathfinder state this?
Their webpage for “The Exe Parrett” only says steam locomotive, not which one.

I received a letter in the post from them about it. It was talking about how they've had to postpone their Newquay tour due to the signalling delay on the branch line, and then went on to talk about 34028 for their Exeter trip.

Not necessarily related but is it possible to oil up the inside of a WC without a pit? I have done that on a Castle and it wasn't a pleasant experience!

Oiling up a Castle isn't exactly a pleasant experience even with a pit:(.

Sorry - someone had to say it:)
