Some good news from the MNLPS. [BJ]

Clan Line has successfully passed it's FTR and is all set for it's British Pullman tour to Kent tomorrow.

The group also add their congratulations to SLL on their successful run to Swanage this morning with Eddystone.

Clan Line heading through Kent today seen at Rainham & Kent House. Not much to show for power, but the clear skies forecast and the engine wearing the Golden Arrow was always going to look good:

Golden Arrow headboard as it’s the nearest date to the very last Arrow in 1971

Interesting facts about Clan Line's latest run. <BJ>

''Clan Line runs with the Golden Arrow!
By kind permission of the British Pullman – A Belmond Train, Clan Line is hauling today’s service from London Victoria to Dover and back, carrying the headboard and regalia of the “Golden Arrow” – a service which British Rail discontinued nearly 53 years ago.
The final Golden Arrow ran on 30 September 1972, destined for the history books. Yet today, history lives again!
Not only did Clan Line regularly haul the service during the 1950s, but five of Belmond’s Pullmans on today’s train were Golden Arrow regulars – including Cygnus and Phoenix, which were in the consist of the final 1972 run, with Perseus held in reserve.
A truly fitting tribute to one of the most glamorous-named trains in British railway history''.

Good sound, but again, hardly any visible exhaust. It was a strsnge day weather-wise. I went to Longfield in the morning only to fail for a second time this year to get a decent picture. (see my post #11 for failure No. 1 back in March). My biggest concerns were (i) that there was more cloud around than the Met office had forecast and (ii) the biting north-easterly wind which I feared might blow the steam the wrong way and spoil my picture. What I had not expected as I stood shivering on the platform was for Clan Line to come pounding up the 1 in 100 in bright sunlight but without any viwsible exhaust at all! Oh well, hopefully third time lucky.

Is it especially unusual for '28 to carry the GA regalia?

Only when there is a reason to carry it like the 53rd anniversary of the last Golden Arrow on 30/09/72. See #186.

Al, I think it's unusual to see a diesel on the back this early in Autumn?

Was that due to a moderate fire risk level, or early thoughts of leaf fall issues please?

I would normally grab the chance of photting 35028 on the 'Arrow', but was waiting in for an Open Reach organised visit that didn't happen, yet again.

But the 'Arrow' with 35028 is one train I most certainly do not want to photo showing a diesel on the back - and the location I would have gone to would have been a totally wasted 100 mile round trip.

Leaf fall is very early this year. The heat of the summer has caused a lot of early Autumn and the RHTT trains have already started in some areas. The recent cooler mornings and railhead contamination have led to a lot more slip issues than normal for the time of year.

I could be wrong but I heard the Pullman's Generator car was out of use, thus needing the 67 on the rear to power the stock. Otherwise yes it was probably there with leaf fall season starting to kick in

No, I've not resorted to changing a train formation as drastically as that.

I have used a strong dilution of Miracle Grow a very few times when I've photted a train on a curve coming out from behind bushes/trees, and the shot I want to use just includes a very small part of a diesel at the rear of the train. That is what I see as a natural solution.

But I would not remove the trailing diesel with 35028 heading the Arrow towards the Shakepseare Cliff footbridge as though it had left Dover Marine - when the diesel would be 100% in view.
