I'll look forward to watching the whole thing.
I never met Mike Lawrence, but he did some wagon moves for me, from Bristol to Alresford, and a brake van from ROF Puriton.

The one thing I'll always remember from the film is the cameraman's apparent fascination with Dave's wife's bust. Oh! and a fleeting glimpse of me firing 7298. R.I.P. Rawley.

I think I saw this or something similar when it was first broadcast.

My father pointed out that the driver was double declutching

I'm in the photo as well, middle foreground wearing blue overalls, looking at the engine. A very young Huw Parker is driving the rail crane in the video.

Bob / Ray what year was this?
must be post 1977 as I would have been around as well otherwise.

    Hi Bryan,
August 1979. Don't remember the collapsed drain incident - would that have been the load of rails from Ellesmere Port?
    Cheers,
    Ray.

Definitive answer below re: TX date.

It was repeated a couple of times afterwards; in 1988 on BBC 2 and then 1993 on BBC 1 London.

I interpreted Bryan's question "When was this?" as "When was the event?" Which was, indeed, August 1979. The first transmission was, as you say, in 1980. I still have a copy from the tape that the Beeb gave to Dave (5193's owner) as a 'thank you'.

Yes probably the rails from there.
I had taken a few photos that proved to Hilary (Steamport solicitor) that the Artic was not in the right place as directed so they had to repair the pit.

They also created a water fountain at Ellesmere Port when a rail damaged a valve in the cutting.
They were loading from the cutting up to the main road.

Film date 1980 I was away in the RE's then so missed the fun.
