Rather apt for this time this year is the 1st photo in this collection of Thomas Wheatley designed locos of the N.B.R.
381 Wheatley J31. The picture of the J31 (with a '3' on its smokebox) as this is the locomotive the LNER chose to represent the 'olden days' during the 1825 - 1925 celebrations of 100 years on the Stockton & Darlington. The loco was already withdrawn and tarted up with all sorts of improbable features before setting off from Glasgow to Darlington. There was some talk of preservation at the time but she went back to Cowlairs where she was scrapped. The '3', of course, was its place in the procession. An 0-6-0 of the North Eastern Railway (also in the procession) sits in behind

8/29 = Laughton Junction on the line to Forth Bridge and Fife. This was a complex Junction where there was a carriage siding and the 2 lines to Aberdeen and the 2 lines to Glasgow diverged thus having crossovers from the Glasgow line to the Aberdeen line in both directions (i.e. from Glasgow direction heading east and from Edinburgh direction heading west. This complex junction no longer exists and only plain line is present today.

211/29 Edinburgh Waverley [East end] as station pilot
    15 / 29 Polmont ?
    26 / 329 Haymarket ?

Just note a serious typo in previous posting; Laughton should read Saughton Junction with the Edinburgh district of Carrick Knowe behind; one of my early spotting locations. Apologies for the error.
