    Hi Neil,

    A few comments,

    29/45 is a Maunsell mogul, possibly 1826?
32/45 831 at Basingstoke Up Local Lines
34/45 833 Brighton with the cliff parallel to the West Coast platforms visible.

    Cheers, Neil

No I do not currently volunteer
The shot of 30487 is on an eastbound service so behind the camera is an overbridge (Tuckers #29) and that is consistent with there being a shallow cutting, as in the picture.

A further comment on 29/45 if I may. This is an early picture of a Maunsell N Class which would have been numbered as A826 at that time, later becoming 1826.

At the grouping the Southern numbering scheme involved locos keeping their pre-grouping numbers and adding a lettered prefix as appropriate - A for Ashford, B for Brighton and E for Eastleigh - depending on which works were responsible for them. As this led to some confusion between similarly numbered locos - as has happened here:( - the numbering was altered in the late twenties so that Eastleigh locos just dropped the letter prefix, while Ashford locos replaced the letter A by adding 1000 to the number and Brighton locos the letter B by adding 2000 to it.
