All very true and probably quite difficult to enforce up to the point where they start making idiots of themselves again, but the SVR should have the right to bar repeat offenders who spoil it for others or damage their property, just as any other business would. A threat of a ban, or removal of their wristband & eviction at the next station, might focus minds & behaviour.
I have seen security on SVR evening trains before, but not for a few years, guess this may reappear now.
I don't want to suggest alcohol bans as that restricts the majority who are responsible and probably quite an important revenue stream too. But clearly there is an issue with drink at these events for a minority.

There were security staff about on Saturday night, one young lad next to us was politely reminded about his body being out the window, Sam in the Railwayman’s didn’t seem to be too chuffed when said security came in trying to look ‘hard’ though whilst I was in a queue with several grey haired blokes getting a round in for the journey home on a train with no bar though.

As ever though there’s no easy answer is there?

On Saturday there were a few other things that went wrong (the punch up, the power cut, the gas leak…) that were frustrating, but totally outside the railways control.

There really is no excuse for being a see you next Tuesday and blaming it on the booze though.

Not making excuses for said companies, we used to occupy offices next to one such organisation and they appear to have to employ a certain irritating type of person (one thick skinned enough to be told multiple times each day to bugger off on the phone), but last time I checked employing such companies was not compulsory!

Much problems with insurance and safety put down to elf and safety gone mad etc are plain and simple because the general public are much more litigious these days and thus for insurances to be valid hoops have to be jumped through, if blame is to be laid its on the general public!

I spent some time viewing Youtube. You are right, it appears that the idiots were confined to Saturday and even then, were a minority. One train that kept popping up with serious surfers, was 'Terry's 50th'. I am sure that Terry was innocent but there were certainly some idiots on board.

How have we got it so wrong in this country? Look at this youtube video of an enthusiast event in the Czech Republic filmed this year on the mainline, yet we get incensed by a few people sticking their heads out of the window! I'm not condoning drunken behaviour but people enjoying themselves is surely what this hobby is about isn't it? Skip to 27:20 for the fun bit.

You can see the ORR falling off their chairs from here. Sort of thing that will lead to more restrictions here as they make sure such behaviour it is not replicated.

I just struggle to see how attitudes and regulation can differ so greatly in two very similar countries.

quite easily , same as countries have different political leanings . slow evolution over time . in the UK we have developed an increasingly intolerant stance to injury and loss of life along with often the financial penalties and compensation that result . So we remove risk and along with it our activities are curtailed . Its not all bad , H&S has eliminated many dangerous practices and improved well being and peoples chances of going home alive and complete

The flip side is respect in other countries is nowhere near as eroded as in the uk along with a much lower level of entitlement . so people have a better level of understanding what they can and can't do

The third part and just for clarity this is not a reflection on the SVR , but across the board , the promotion and availability of alcohol on these events maybe needs to be considered as well . If beer is too readily available is that fuelling the behaviour

Can confirm at least one of the rakes in the video had a bar, with prices which would seem decent in a supermarket here, never mind on a train!

Was security getting off at 0730 Sunday morning at the ASG. Should not be required. People need to take a look at themselves.

I did think that too, no need to have the tavern out in the late evening.

The last train off Bridgnorth on Saturday was the WC set with no bar on it though.

All very well, but the lads I saw at the ASG had the contents of a supermarket liquor aisle already in their rucksack..
Perhaps that is the issue, people bringing their own, not buying it at the railway - which may encourage a little more moderation if they have to stumble to and from a bar in a moving carriage..

This recalls a conversation in East Germany when the difference in attitude was explained thus : In the Uk you can do what you want until you're told you can't whereas in East Germany you can do nothing until you're told that you can
