Bit short notice, but just a quick reminder that it is the Severn Velley's 1940's weekends 27th - 28th June and 4th - 5th July.

    pick 5 out of these:

    7812
    7802
    42968
    46443
    5164
    7714
    5764

no definitive roster has been issued yet, also expect the usual sideshows, big bands, taped up windows, military vehicle's (and convoys) sandbags, a re-creation of a 1940's house, air raids, fly pasts and plenty more!

I wouldn't bet on 5164 as its bottom end was much dismantled at the weekend and sat on the jacks. But add 4566 to the list of possible locos!

And presumably 46443 would only be put out on those kind of loads in an absolute emergency?

46443 is a much better loco now after all of the valve work etc has taken place over the past months, but my guess is that it would be put on the Dining train (as it will only be 5/6 coaches).

This was posted on the SVR forum on Friday:

    Engines not available for use:
5164 - Valve and motion repairs
5764 - Bolier insurance inspection and valve repairs
7714 - Washout and repairs from Monday

    So i assume it's 7802, 7812, 4566, 42968 & 46443.

I would imagine at least 7714 to be availaible again for the weekend.

Anyone know whether the late night (post concert) train to Bridgnorth is running on the Saturday night(s) as it isn't listed on the timetable online. Find it very surprising if it isn't as it used to be very busy loading to 11 coaches on occaisions as is a vital link back north for many..

It is for Staff, re-enactors and Dinning passengers only, as always, but yes it is running.

I visited the line on saturday. The weather was typical SVR sunny with showers but the trains appeared to be packed.Very few linesiders which was surprising but well done to all and especially the station staff who had made a real effort to decorate the stations really well. The lineside vegetation is a bit like the rain forest and it's certainly a challenge to get pictures but anyway my efforts are here:

I too visited Saturday, indeed v.busy-the late night concert especially so. Special mention to prairie 4566 for a stirring performance on the post battle train which turned a half hour late departure from Highley to a right time arrival at Kidderminster with the heavy teaks. I should add that there was significant catch up time built into the timetable but it was still 10 down leaving Arley. The noise was terrific and i have new respect for that engine. Great fun!

Excellent video Martyn, very well filmed and edited.

I paid a brief visit to Kidderminster on the Saturday of the second weekend, for an event at the Museum, and the station was absolutely heaving. I hope the SVR--like our other major Heritage lines--are having a good year.

    Regards
