    Those sort of changes seem to crop up in all sorts of places - Platform 2 at Pickering has a short length, still to be seen this day, where the edge of the coping stones had to be sawn off to provide clearance for Bulleid cylinders when running round, discovered on the first summer that Taw Valley and 257 Squadron both visited.

    Amazing, given that 841 was a regular performer and I have been lead to believe that they are wide locos, that "gauge friendly" Bulleid Pacifics required adjustments to the platforms.

    Would that be due to the throw on the curve?

    I actually thought that the recess in the platform face was because Meteor fouled the platform and predated the arrival of the Bulleids by a few years. Its vacuum pipe ran along the right hand side of the footplate angle and down the end of the buffer beam and it was the latter that created the problem. However, I could be wrong. Probably am. :)

    I was there at the time the Bulleids were being gauged, and I think I recall the petrol saw being wielded, and going to look at the change afterwards, but I'm possibly now of an age where my memory may be suspect!

    Following a review of siding space and stock, it appears some items at the KESR will be for disposal, or may even go for scrap if no takers can be found. Sadly, this may include one of the Longmoor "Blue Saloons", which is currently sitting at Wittersham Road as an abandoned project. I should make it clear that the vehicles concerned are NOT owned by the KESR.

    I doubt there will be a list, as the items are owned by various owners. therefore there is no one unifying source to coordinate any efforts. I do know, however, that the LSWR Invalid saloon and the LSWR Tri-Composite are both at risk.

    Don't think that any wagons are in the firing line. It mostly relates to coaches, with some coach underframes, too.

    From an historical point of view, it would be appropriate to have an ex L&SWR carriage in service on the K&ESR, as the old company depended on them for many years, but sadly resources are finite.

    There has been, but their lack of storage, coupled with two vehicles to look after already, means that no progress has been made. We also contacted the guys who ran the T3 project at Swanage.

    Move them to the MHR and get rid of those LBSCR coach bodies to make room? Much more appropriate and suitable for the line.

    69.297 - Five ton four wheel steam loco crane, built by Thomas Smith & Sons (Rodley) Ltd, Leeds, 1925, builder’s no. 10,373, obtained 1969 from Thomas H. Howell Ltd, Newport Works. Restored in 1999.

    73.6I - Four wheel 3ft 0in gauge, 11/13hp diesel locomotive. Used at Lluest Wen Reservoir near Maerdy in the Rhondda Fach Valley; unnamed and unnumbered; built by Ruston & Hornsby Ltd, Lincoln, 1937-38, maker’s no.187100. Unrestored and not operational.

    78.21I/2 - Taff Vale Railway 1st/3rd composite carriage no.51 (renumbered 6413 by Great Western Railway 1922), built 1883 by Brown Marshalls & Co, Birmingham. Obtained 1977 from Hayling Island, Hampshire. Mounted on ex-MOD bogie underframe (cut and shut).

    78.74I - Rhymney passenger brake/parcels carriage, no. unknown; date and builder unknown. Unrestored body only (no underframe).

    78.116I - Great Western Railway shunter’s truck, number unknown, date and builder unknown. Obtained from 1978 from British Steel Corporation, Cardiff.

    86.117I - Cambrian Railways 3rd/brake carriage, number unknown (new number in 1922 on being absorbed by Great Western Railway unknown), one of eight built 1890 by Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Company, Birmingham. Unrestored body only (no underframe).

    88.37I - National Coal Board cylindrical tar tank wagon no.7,328, date unknown, built 1940 by Cambrian Wagon Works Ltd, Cardiff. Obtained 1988 from Thomas Ness Ltd, Caerphilly Tar Works. Restored by Museum in late 1980s.

    90.57I - 0-4-0 fireless locomotive, unnamed, built by Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co Ltd, Kilmarnock, 1929, builder’s no.1,966. Obtained 1990 from Monsanto plc, Newport Works. Partially restored by Museum 1990.

    88.38I - 0-4-0 fireless locomotive “No.1”, built by Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co Ltd, Kilmarnock, 1948, builder’s no.2,238. Obtained 1988 from BP Chemicals Ltd, Barry Works. Unrestored.

    1997.98/1 - Great Western Railway six ton hand crane, no, ADW 230, date unknown (1926?), builder unknown (GWR?). Restored in 1990s.

    1997.98/2 - Great Western Railway match truck for six ton hand crane, number unknown, date unknown (1926?), builder unknown (GWR?).

    1997.208 - Cambrian Railways 1st/3rd composite carriage no.238 (renumbered 6277 by Great Western Railway 1922; 1939 converted into a wireless van and renumbered 40576; 1946 converted into painters’ coach and renumbered 80945), built 1895 by Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co Ltd, Birmingham. Mounted on ex-MOD (originally GER) bogie underframe No. 82667 (cut and shut). Restored exterior and one first and one third class compartment, remainder of interior remaining as a single open space.

    1999.7 - British Railways six wheel passenger underframe, no. E70670, built 1950 by British Railways Engineering, Stratford.

    2016.95/1 - Four wheel 2ft 0in gauge, battery powered, electric drive mine locomotive from Llanharry Haematite Mine, Glamorgan, running number 4; built 1962/63 by Greenwood & Batley Ltd, Leeds, maker’s number unknown.
