Oh dear...if I had a few million I'd be building one. I think it would be in great demand. There was something about the J50, which I can't put my finger on, that endeared me to them.

Wild to think that, 20 years ago, none of these engines existed.

(at least, not in that form. I struggle to think of assemblages of older engines as "new" even though I think it's a perfectly valid -and quite efficient- way to represent lost classes)

Indeed, and very satisfying that we helped make it happen. :)

A few of the papers have a photo of Tornado in today, with Kemi Badenoch in the cab. Taken during the opening of Beaulieu Park station on Sunday.

I'm a member of the Hornby Railway Collectors Association (the real Hornby, not that Margate set up) and someone turned up with an example of the far-too-short Dublo "Deltic" re-painted in LNER Apple Green and given the number 6701, IIRC - and it looked really good! I might do one in Garter Blue...

I have just watched and I agree, but it doesn't explain how the ETCS stuff interfaces with the normal controls. Is there a publicly accessible explanation somewhere? Presumably ETCS can apply the brakes if necessary in the same way as TPWS can. Can it also shut the regulator or does that require human action?

As I had it explained to me, quite a few years ago now, the ETCS will only apply the brakes: this is thought to be adequate to stop the train, as there are at least two people on the footplate to attend to the regulator. However, that may be out of date.

Noticed the A1 was carrying a 'Matey' headboard on Saturday. Some connection with the late Ray Towell?

Thanks, wondered if it was something of that sort. Sadly missed.
