60007 and POB now in shunt spur waiting for path to NVR. 0Z48 is actually 1Z08 but still waiting for 47593 to attach.

Blimey I feel for those poor passengers and stewards, 3 hours stuck outside Peterborough!

Does anyone know what happened to SNG? Hope it's a quick fix, idk what would be in line to fill in short notice for the next two trips.

A pity that the A4 suffered an issue on the return, but still great to see her back on home metals nonetheless. Including footage of 44871, the A4 is seen at Newark, Doncaster and Grantham:

There was a diesel on the back . if the loco was struggling would you not call that into action to get you over the line ?

I was thinking the same, they go on about diesels on the back for turning and emergencies, What happened here?? couldn't it just have pushed No.7 into the platform, where the waiting 47 could have removed it, still what do i, a mere mortal know

I hope that I'm not speaking out of turn, but it is probably fair to say that rather than struggle the loco quite suddenly died on them. Having got to Stoke keeping water in the boiler became a real issue so a very cautious approach down to Peterborough was necessary. Outside Peterborough the process of attaching a diesel to the A4 to remove it from the train became a very protracted affair.

I am reminded of Mallard's last run in 1988, returning from Carlisle to York. It too had a clogged up spark arrester and expired near Birkett Tunnel. Opening the cods mouth to gain access to the smokebox was easy enough up in the Fells, but is not recommended on the ECML under the wires. In both cases a brush of the arrester and the fire sprang into life again

Consecutive northbound steam departures from Peterborough on the Down Fast line, either side of a rare 'window' between inter city expresses - plus return coverage passing Grantham and Spalding

In the absence of No 9 these days nice to see LSL are letting the loco get dirty and real looking.

Exactly that Peter. 47593 was stabled in the shunt spur on the down side and needed to get across to the up side to retrieve 60007 and support coach. Once it was out of sequence then trying to repeatedly thread back and forwards across the ECML isn't easy. There was also issue of what to do with a possibly dead A4 - there's no access to the NVR from the up side at Peterborough, only the down, so if everything was OK then cutting it off and putting in Eastfield wouldn't have helped either.

Luckily the shunt spur isn't wired so the cod's mouth could be opened and the spark arrestor cleared, funnily enough with a whack with a broom. The ash looks to be quite flaky so completely carpeted the spark arrestor.

Shows about 47 minutes in the WTT times. Realtime column is inactive until it happens is it not?
What I assume was a turning move took place today.

That's just what RTT expects to happen - the working timetable still shows 10.01 departure. 60007 went to Ely this morning to turn.

Wonderful that old style steam loco 'running repairs' are still being done like that. I wonder how many modern diesel locos can be got going again the same way!

Maybe the NVR should ask for a contribution from mainline loco owners who use its facilities to get the turntable at Wansford fixed!
