Here in the cold, dark midlands and in the depths of Kidderminster C&W. We are moving to Paintman paints for the next one through. Only time will tell with fading and how it stands up to use.

Be interested to hear how you get on! How are they for price vs Williamsons/Howse? Last time I checked I think maroon/crimson etc was about the same but Williamsons/Howse did most other colours cheaper, whereas Paintman maintained the same prices across their range? As you say, will take a while to fully assess when it comes to fading and wear - even more so when you're putting it on coaches that live in a nice warm carriage shed :)

WARM! This time of year the carriage shed is probably the coldest place across the site. It is usually warmer outside than in. We regularly get frost on the inside of the shed and then rain as it the sun hits it. In 2017 during the beast from the east it reached -15c at 7am and at 1pm it was still -15c inside. We went home.....

Price wise Paintman is around the £150 mark for pretty much everything. We repainted one of our TSOs earlier in the summer for the Harry Potter tv series, we were far happier with the consistency and it was essentially a free trial. As mentioned above, if it doesnt fade, craze or even fail to adhere in somecases as we have had with Williamsons/Howse. The extra cost is worth it for a longer lasting product as time between repaints/ revarnish will be longer.

Out of interest, what sort of coverage do you get from a 5L tin?

Totally agree about paying the extra for a quality product. With overhauls costing tens of thousands of pounds (if not more), it seems daft to scrimp on paint for the sake of a few hundred pounds. If it lasts twice as long but only costs a third as much, you're quids in after a couple of repaints.
