That must have been a hard day's work! I hope he was excused prep and disposal duties that day!

Fantastic effort Mark and as you say shows what a great job both crews did - Alastair seems to have the edge in the steam producing department as whist the Scot is feathering nicely, the Castle has steam to spare!
I wasn't lucky enough to be with 6115 but was with 5043 and just couldn't believe how well that engine steams no matter how hard it seems to be working, looking out of the window just before the summit and listening to the Castle roar and to see the steam from the lifting safety valves, I could hardly believe it! It was the same on the south run with again steam to spare at the summit. Masterful driving and firing.
I can well believe Bob's comment about the draught on 5043 - I'm sure it was pulling the coal off the shovel!

I'll think we'll have to invent an extra sixth star for videos like Mark's, for being informative as well as aesthetic. It'll be manna for the regional devotees - unless their favourite comes second of course.

Long may both these engines keep finding crews that deserve them. Everyone's a winner here, eh?

Absolutely. Seeing magnificently restored and maintained traction worked by top-draw crew on our famous gradients is truly awesome - regardless of breed, colour, size =D> =D> =D>

Great video, both locos giving an impreesive performance.

Out of interest, what was the tonnage of each train. I know we have commented that the Castle had one carriage less, both trains include Met cam Pullmans which I understand are heavier than most, but the castle has a good number of mk2s in it's rake.

In light of the impromptu coaling that went on at Crewe when we got back its also worth considering that the first coach on the southbund run had quite a few tons of coal on board!

Just to add my congratulations to all at Tyseley for a fantastic run, a real credit to you all. I hope that a run over the S&C is now on the agenda!!
