Summer 1974 I ended up in agony with a severly sunburnt back after a day spent chipping rust off the boiler with a hammer & chisel at Bitton.

If you look on the MHR web site then on the shed update the latest news is there. The standard of engineering is mind blowing, look at 60019 and you will expect 45379 to be one of the best fives around....a possible candidate for the cathedrals whilr 73096 is healthy again... for sure.

45379 may not be suitable for the Cathedrals, on certain routes at least, owing the 60mph limit on black fives (6' wheels). Hopefully it might get an exemption.

From where did you get the impression she was going mainline?

It's not. There won't be any more MHR engines going on the main line. Only independantly owned engines, and you can see by how often 60019 goes out how keen they are.

There's already Two Mainline Black Fives with another two due soon, meanwhile MHR seem somewhat short of motive power...

There is no commercial gain for the MHR to go main line again and what would the MHR get out of going main line just a lot of hassle and extra work for everyone that would be connected with going main line.

When 45379 was bought, the MHR were still heavily involved in mainline activities and it was announced at the time that the Black 5 was to be overhauled for mainline running.
However after the MHR decided to pull out of running their own mainline activities any chance of seeing 45379 on the mainline ended with that decision.

I would imagine that the loco has still been overhauled to mainline spec technically, however it has not been put through the relevant paperwork certification.

Yes the MHR are a bit short on their own fleet at the moment, but they saw it coming and bought 34007 Wadebridge last year, are fortunate to have Lord Nelson being based there for the forseeable future and have hired in 5224 from Crewe for the summer. Plus they can use 60019 when it is not on the mainline, which this year is quite a lot.

Later on in the year, they should have 92212 and possibly 45379 joining the roster, so things could change quite quickly for the better.

Also it is quite possible that 73096 may return to service, however that all depends on what the MHR decide to do as regards repairs, with an intermediate overhaul being considered whilst the loco is having its new cylinder fitted, as has been stated before 73096 was due to have new tyres fitted this year and these were AFAIK already ordered when the cylinder problem occurred.

Don't forget about 31806 which should be back in steam again next year. It can't be to long before her boiler will be back at Ropley.

One very small correction: the MHR does not own Wadebridge. It owns a large share in the company that owns the loco. The distinction is subtle but important, as I'm sure the other shareholders and Wadebridge volunteers will agree.

Come on - the MHR own 73% of the company, it might as well be 100%.

The black 5 is not very likely to be in service this year (possible, but not likely), there is a huge amount still to do and do right. The ticket isn't yet running so there is no need to rush the work.

I don't suppose the other 27% think that, otherwise they would have sold their shares.

It depends on the rules of the company but normally those controling 25.1% or more of the shares of a company can stop most things happening to it that they object to.

If so why do people who want a controllinginterest in a company usually only buy 51% of the shares?

because in finance rules most resolutions are passed with a simple majority . However certain resolutions legally need a 75% majority

Ordinary resolutions - simple majority, so over 50%.

Special resolutions - required for important matters such as alterations to the memorandum or articles of association, a change of name, or a reduction of capital to be approved by the court. These are passed at a general meeting of which at least 21 days' notice specifying the intention to propose a resolution as a special resolution has been given. (In Scotland, the 21 days may include the day of the meeting.) As with an extraordinary resolution, a special resolution requires a 75% majority.

Extraordinary resolutions - required for important matters such as alterations to the memorandum or articles of association, a change of name, or a reduction of capital to be approved by the court. They are passed by at least 75% of the members who vote on the motion, in person or by proxy (where allowed) at a general meeting.

Beaten by a minute! Was about to post the same. Not that it's important In this context I suppose as most of the decisions made can be reached with a simple majority. I do agree that it is important to make the distinction that the MHR don't own Wadebridge - we have simply bought a large say in what happens with and to it.
